Road & Track's video of the new Chevy Camaro
Listening to the narrative behind the Chevy Camaro video at the Road & Track web site ("GM has now taken the wraps off this Camaro concept, shown recently at the Detroit Auto Show"), R&T may have jumped the gun a little on uploading it to their web site, but we'll take it anyway. The video gives a short history of the Camaro name, info on the specs and some design notes probably resulting from an interview with designer Tom Peters. While many say GM is late to the party with this one, we say better late than never.
Thanks to Plas for the tip.

All of you who think the camaro looks like the challenger can go drive that dodge crap. The challenger came out after the camaro remember!! This car is awsome and I along with everyother camaro fan will buy one in a heartbeat. Not only does this car look badass it has the potential to eat up the ricers that the dumbass kids of today drive. I really dont care about gas milage I want a car that is afordable, badass looking, and smokes the tires with ease, and that is what this new camaro screams to me.
So all you who what to buy a rustang or an over rated hemi go ahead and everyone else will laugh as you disapear in their new camaro's rearview mirror.

I like it ..alot.having camaro'sfor the sixties, I can certainly see the theincorperation of those classic design elements. such as the grill looks abit like the 69.I too wish it wasbit more rounder in the front finders.but that adds to higher production costs.
less curves and bends makes it alot less to make.
the interior is
drop dead cool.. center console, if like the pics reminds me of the hot rod days gone bye refined. I do hope for v8 300hp with a 5 speed with 3:73 out back. bring it to the table at 20-25k.will sell like hot cakes if they do give the 60k warranty. bring it next spring .. waiting to deliver too long is just down right wrong. Can we say Pace car?

Always been a big fan of anything with a bowtie on it. But as of late, and GM,s endless string of terds with the old school badges on them, like Impala, camaro and even the last genration vet that looks like a door stop, wear are those curves, everthing they build today looks like its trying to reflect away radar signals!!! How about a straight 5 cylinder truck, thats gay. This new concept car looks good, but wait three years, they must be r- tarded they will be out of business by then, I heard maby insolvent by 2007????

this car is BADASS. everyone who has whined about the grille, just change it you retards! don't bash an amazing car cause you don't know how to bolt on a new grille. this is better than anything that's come off of ford's lineup in this market.

The front end on the 1st through 4th Gen all said "Don't F#@k With Me Bi#ch!" On this new concept it says "Would anyone like tea-n-crumpets?" It OK though. I'll still buy it!

It took me a while to warm up to retro, but I like the design over all. I agree the grille could use some massaging, though. This concept's coke-bottle shape is a refreshing change compared to the relatively "hipless" 'Stang and Challenger. Make mine fire engine red with an LS7, and the dealer can have my new Eclipse.

Wow... LOOK! it's the front end of a Mustang and the rear end of the Vette. What? Chevy didn't have any original ideas? this is gonna be one of those were the older ones were better and they should've just left well enough alone.

Well, not exactly what I was hoping the new camaro would look like.It looks as if they took all the features from 67-69 years & combined them in to one car. It looks "cartoonish" like the batmobile.
In comparison, the new Dodge Challenger looks simpler, what a true musclecar should look like, basic body lines with the availability of a big engine.

What never ceases to amaze me is that the American car makers bring out these awesome concept cars that drive the buying public into a frenzy. Yet when they production version comes out, it looks like a watered down version of worn out ideas. If the U.S. auto manufacturers would just focus on design, style, and that "cool factor" and leave those concepts in the new models, the U.S. would regain dominance in the auto market within 5 years.

I have to disagree on the Front End, everything else looks good but my first thought of seeing this car a “STS Cadillac”. I think it should go old school, go with the round headlights, and give it an old school a little more rounded rear end look. It would give it the old school but new look, it worked on the mustang (it is still working on the mustang). In addition, this time put the 6.0 L engine (or bigger) right off the bat. Don’t make the same mistake as the SSR and GTO, promise the big engine then deliver less. I had many disappointed customers when GM did that.

When I read about the engines that were to be put in and some declared optional, I find it to be rather dissapointing that the company will hold back horsepower in the camaro just so the corvette has the stronger horsepower. To this I say screw the corvette, I have love the body style of the Irocs and the Z's and the new body style is still kiinda cool but my first request on obtaining the new Zed would be to put the rocket engine in and give me equal playing ground, let the people decide what style of car they want and keep the power the same. Screw corvette!

Me like Me like
one of the best looking cars
Ive seen in decades.
the body angles are so cool:)
It looks like an american car!
Indie rear is a great thing.
i have a few complaints..
the grill looks so plasticy
chrome would be better or maybe body colored
and please dont make this a dorky hatchback
give us the real deal coupe
and how about a reliable car?
those who have owned one or know someone who has
knows what im saying.
couldnt drive it in the snow, rain or out past 10 miles from home without fear of a alternator and fan breaking.
and save the 6.0 for a SS or z28 model
most of us will want to drive this everyday
by 2008 gas could be 5$ a gallon or more
Remember when the muscle cars
have different V8 options?
let me have my cake and eat it too
I just want a sweet looking v8 cruiser
that runs great everyday, is easy to live with
and has some good features at a good price.
not a street racer.

I don't think chevy is going to loose any customers here. It's an overall great job. Personally, I would trim down the rear quarters panels, round out the tail lamps, and bring back some that resembles the 69 grille.
Great job on the Stang and the Challenger too.
It's about time that America took back thier image and stop copying Japanese/European design.

Whoa. Build it. Not sure how much a production version would differ ... but if this is close to reality, Chevy would be back from the brink in the blink of an eye. Here's to Pony cars!

Where were these designers for much of GM's lineup before now?
That car looks great, and just modern enough to make the Mustang look a bit old. If they could care as much about design with other cars in the GM stable (such as the Impala), the company might not be suffering so badly.
