Mercedes most name-dropped brand in music
Among stiff
competition from clothing brands, booze, and gun manufacturers, Mercedes has topped the list of most-frequently
mentioned brands in Billboard's Top 20 list for 2005, according to American Bandstand. Car manufacturers in general did very well this year - Cadillac, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, and Chevrolet all finished very high on the list. Despite numerous threads on Autoblog this year involving Chrysler and hip-hop (here, here, and here), the boys in Auburn Hills didn't get enough love to crack the Top 10. 50 Cent took home the dubious honor of mentioning the most products in '05, dropping the names of numerous automakers along the way.

Rappers really do love saying "Beynz" or "BNZ".
"Hyundai" or "Honduh, G!" aren't nearly as cool.
I suspect Hummer is cited quite a bit. I remember somebody from Busta Rhymes' crew one time said he used it for taking his garbage out and that's all. Too funny.

It makes me HATE a brand (car or otherwise) when it's constantly mentioned in music, particularly rap music. I'll avoid it like plague. The Escalade (excuse me, Slade) is pretty much exclusively a car for rappers, etc. Average folks won't touch them anymore because they're considered gangsta/ghetto.
What about the equally annoying and pathetic trend of naming kids after luxury brands. I've heard of kids named Lexus and Mercedes. It's really sad that people think so highly of a brand to name their kid after it.
These people are bringing down the curve for the rest of the nation!

i don't mind rap. wait, no, i LIKE rap.
the thing is that i like artistic/creative rap with a positive message like outkast or blackalicious. i have no tolerance for this cookie-cutter self-indulgent "i'm so great" and "my cars and hoes" garbage sang atop someone else's made-for-pop drum machine beats like "fitty cent" and these other hacks spew into the mtv mainstream
what a poor way to drag down a perfectly reasonable form of expression.

#4-That's too funny. I had a look at a study of the most-black baby names conducted a couple years ago.
One of the most popular names for a black boy was "Marquis"...pronounced "markus"...Too funny, who doesn't love rolling in a mid-90s Mercury Grand Marquis?

That's so funny how you point this out as being a black thing when (#9 which is probably no your real name) your named after a friggin' religion. It's also funny how (since you started it) white folks name their kids Chance, Buck, and Cadence (oh yes, and some of them do name their kids after cars too).
Although I agree that some black folks give their kids names they can't get a decent job with (dumb-asses), people like you look for any reason on this blog to voice what you don't like about what an ethnicity does; but of course you can, it's a blog, right?
11, So what culture don't we have? Last time I looked, Americans have no culture at all with these politicians and religious groups trying to change everything this country was built on. Will we still be allowed to say Merry Christmas in 10 years?
