Porsche Carrera GT "most successful high-performance sports car of all time"

Porsche announced today that it has delivered the 1,111th Carrera GT to a customer in the United Arab Emirates. According to Porsche, this milestone makes the Carrera GT "the most successful high-performance sports car of all time."
Not only has the Carrera GT been a successful "halo car" for the German marque, but Porsche chief executive Wendelin Wiedeking said, "...Porsche has made money with the Carrera GT. In this respect, this sports car has also been an economic success for our company, as expected."
Production of the supercar winds up in April 2006. By the way, if you're thinking of a last minute purchase before they're all gone, the U.S. market MSRP is $440,000.

This is kind of off-topic, but it says Stuart Waterman has the highest AND least amount of posts on the "auto blogger" list. Weird.

I think they don't lie. Porsche has wide showrooms all over the world and it has a name of really reliable cars...

I may be a cynic but if it's so successful why did they decide to stop production early? Also, why are most dealers offering almost a $100,000 discount? Most Porsche dealers in the US just want these things off the lot. They're now selling for dealer cost. I've heard it's just as bad in the UK.

They make discounts maybe because of fact that this model has already reached the target goal. And someday it must be stopped to maintain its' aftermarket value.

They say that they have made money from the CGT. Does that mean auto manufacturers usually don't make money from their cars?

Lemme quote Jeremy Clarkson of BBC's Top Gear: "C*cks buy Porsches".
'Nuff said. PAG knows their target demographic pretty well, I think.

The Carrera is still selling, just no longer in the US due to upcoming US emissions regulations. The cost to recertify prevented Porsche from continue selling here.
