Checkmate for MINI
It's being
reported by Inside Line that MINI will show
its Checkmate package for the MINI Cooper and Cooper S at the LA Auto Show. Reportedly this package debuted in
Frankfurt, but honestly we don't remember seeing it. The new option package includes Checkmate side decals (shown) a
rear spoiler and stripes. Inside the Checkmate MINI gets patterned cloth or leather sport seats, leather steering wheel
and a high gloss dash panel. Actual hardware upgrades include stability control, front foglamps and a performance wheel
and tire package.
With only one model in its lineup, MINI continues to find ways to creatively accessorize its vehicle. Each
iteration attracts a whole new group of interested parties ready to get down with the MINI brand. Imagine what the
company will do when it has two models!

The "Checkmate" package was introduced to the US with the start of 2006 MINI production in September and has been on US roads since October. It's basically a glorified sport package which has been available since 03/2002.
For those inclined, you can read more about the Checkmate package from this summer's initial MINI USA PR release: http://motoringfile.com/2005/08/05/miniusa_officially_announces_2006_updates/The "Checkmate" package was introduced to the US with the start of 2006 MINI production in September and has been on US roads since October. Checkmate has been available and at dealers for months now. And no, you don't have to get the horseshoe rims with it.
