General Motors expands pickup and SUV recall by 553,000 units
General Motors announced Friday that it is expanding an
earlier recall to include another 553,000 units. The action, which affects 1999-2002 model year sport-utilities and
full-size pickups centers on potentially faulty anti-lock brake systems, which may unintentionally activate at low
speeds. Owners of certain Chevrolet Silverados, Tahoes, Suburbans and Avalanches are among those who might find
notices in their mailboxes. Not to be left out, GMC's doppelgangers, the Sierra, Yukon, and Yukon XL are also recall
targets.
The initial recall this past August covered some 804,000 examples in 14 U.S. states. Friday's announcement adding Delaware, Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Washington D.C. to the mix increases the total to 21 states.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is continuing its investigation of 1.2 million of the General's SUVs and pickups, which began last April.

My wife is having the same problem with the anti-lock brake sensor with her s-10 Blazer that the recall of the larger stuff is on. Where can we take our complaint to become part of this recall?

Anouther piece of junk by GM. A bit of love on the assembly line saves recal time later. Blazer ans S10 problems are unrelated to full size trucks. The hubs on the S10/T10 seperate and fail. GM would rather buy a $10.00 wire than a $300.00 bearing

I think this should be a product improvement not a recall. Just like toyota. GM is doing nothing more than improving it product with better part.

Hd- your comment may be accurate, but I was specific about my problem. I have the identical sensor problem with the s-10. I was rather hopeing someone would have an intelligent response to my problem, rather than the typical GM bashing trash. Perhaps someone else may have a HELPFUL answer.

Another reason not to buy trucks ;).
No honestly, HD (#2) is right. A little care at the assembly lines would indeed save a lot of costs later on.

Well, actually it's not the people putting the cars together that is the biggest problem with quality. It has more to do with the design of the particular part/car and the quality of component than the person putting it in. The problem is that the domestics squeeze their suppliers so tight, that it forces them to make sacrafices on the parts or else go under. I know this first hand, as we have a lot of parts mfr's here in Michigan and I have family who work in the auto industry.

Rollie,
Hey there, don't get angry because I can't provide you an answer which will help you out in the immediate term, but I can help steer you into a better future by simply stating this: Do not buy GM!
I've had an S-10, and it was the biggest POS imaginable...the tranny had to be yanked at 3000 miles for repair. Blown head gaskets, catalytic converter which almost left me for dead out in the Nevada summer heat (115 degree heat damn near killed me) ...no f'n way will I ever buy another GM POS. You'd be wise to wring what you can out of your POS and simply buy Japanese next time around.
Merry Christmas!! :)

There was a TSB issued for S10s regarding the front ABS sensors. The repair is almost identical to this recall, something about making sure the sensor is clean and laying flat against the dust shield. A GM dealer service dept has to know about it. If I can find my login info to Alldata I'll pass along the TSB.

Rastus- I don't need to be "steered" anywhere. If I had wanted opinions about models and manufacturers I would have asked for it. I have owned vehicles by the big three, Germans, British, and Japaneese. I could tell you why they were either Gods gift, or lawn landmines left by the dog. I wanted help on a specific problem, not nitwit retoric. Tracy, at least, gave an intelligent response to the question.

another example of obsolite american technology put together with substandard american labor. it takes huge discounts to convince and american to buy an american product and even then it is hardly worth it. americans should stick to burgers, fries and legal litagation and leave the manufacturing to the big boys.

Yes Paul, the ARSHOLE list. I think a simple request for recall information should bring a reasonable answer, or simply no answer at all from someone who can't help with the question. I will bet you are in your low twentys right? Really, how old are you? I probably won't get a real answer to that one either. It amazes me how smart people one third my age are. You guys know EVERYTHING. If only I had learned SOMETHING in the last sixty years or so. I might know everything too. What a pity.

My last entry to you Paul,-as to your last response? Just as I figured. In thirty years or so, you'll be amazed just how childish you used to be. Life is the teacher, you just don't know it yet.

Have the problem with my 2000 4 wheel drive S-10 pickup. It is also not included in "the recall", but it is real scary sometimes when I have to stop behind someone or pulling into a parking spot.
