Honda's Asimo grows up, joins the workforce

Asimo

As children age, they gain knowledge, cultivate new skills, and gain better control of their faculties. So it is with Honda's robotic spokesperson, Asimo. The auto industry's favorite android has gained a bunch of new tricks, and is preparing to take over your workplace.

The diminutive bobbleheaded astronaut can now serve tea, recognize people with specially-encoded business cards, and push a mail cart. Asimo has also picked up speed, and can now trot along at 4 miles per hour— twice as fast as he/she/it was previously clocked.

Visitors to the company's offices can expect to see the robot being put to work early next year, and outside firms sick of dealing with temperamental help can lease an Asimo for themselves. At an asking price of $170,000 a year, however, that had better be one mean cup of Earl Grey.
