About 35,000 2001 and 2002 Mazda Miatas have been voluntarily recalled due to a potential emissions problem. Tests performed by the EPA found that emissions levels can be worse than what is allowed by EPA standards when the vehicle is started cold. The repair will involve replacing the central processing unit.

Mazda says that neither the fuel economy nor the performance of the vehicle will be affected.
