G-wagen to get upgrade
For those of you who felt that the G-wagen was too antiquated with sub-par interior matierals and a tired design (at
least inside the car), Mercedes-Benz thinks you may have a point. Now that the automaker has announced that the car is
off the block for at least another five years, word is that the company will be redoing the interior of the vehicle to
better match today's design trends, as well as the hefty G-wagen price tag.
Expect more powerful engines for the G500 and G55 AMG, too.

It would be nice if MB would bring a V10 diesel for the truck, but no, they have to cling to those wonderful gas engines. MB's V8s are superb in their sedans, but a truck of this caliber needs one tough ass diesel engine.

Those who buy a G-wagen for its interior are soccer moms, yuppies, and people who are compensating. The vehicle may be old, but the engineers got it right the first time, so why bother with needless upgrades?
I think it would be great if they were to try and tap into the enthusiasts market here in the U.S. Offer it with stripped interiors and less expensive engines and it would be a hit. Of course that wouldn't be cost effective to due the cost of importing them, but I can always dream can't I?

This is a very ugly (in a charming way), highly functional and WAY over priced vehicle. I totally agree with md that DC should strip the sucker down and sell it more at the relative price they charge in Europe. Also, it BUMS me out that they insist on only selling the short wheelbase version! The long (original) version is SO much more functional, rides/handles FAR better, and would be so much easier to position against competitors' products here in the US.

Trucks are subject to a 25% duty if they're not US, Canadian, or Mexican here in the US...
Yes, 25%.

Umm, not sure where you got your info. The G-Class pricing in the US is roughly the same as Germany for a similarly configured vehicle. There is no 25% premium on foreign built SUVs.
And to the person who said that interior features shouldn't matter to potential buyers...maybe that's true for you but it's not true for most buyers. I'm driving my third G-wagen (G55) and I would seriously consider upgrading to one with an improved interior. I bought the G-wagen because it's the only luxury vehicle that I can enjoy driving to work every day and then thrash off-road on the weekend without much worry about breakdowns. If I wanted a pure off-road vehicle, a tricked out Suzuki would do just as well.
