American Suzuki Motor Corp. announced Wednesday that a specially-designed SX4 will hit U.S. dealers as a 2007 model
in late summer 2006.
The U.S. market will get the all-wheel drive version from the top of the line European model of the mini-crossover,
plus a 2.0-liter DOHC engine, with a choice of five-speed manual or 4-speed automatic.

Hey for those who dont know i read that the engine for the car will be a 2.0 liter which waz already told but with 147 hp i think its pretty decent maybe not as much as the aerio but its a great start i think the car would do good in the US if it get good milage and power.

The new swift was offered to the US dealers before it was produced. They turned it down. Now the US has to wait for the next generation which will probably have a more powerful engine to suit US demands.

European models get a 1.5 or a 1.6 Suzuki gas engine or a 1.9 Fiat diesel. The diesel will also get a six speed gearbox. The car is built on the new Swift platform. I also hope the 2.0 is not the GM/Holden engine. Suzuki has its own 2.0 and I hope that is the one that makes it here. No timing belt. !!! I will hold my breath on the car. Everytime a company modifies a car for the U.S market I get a knot in my stomach. They usually end up cheaping it up somehow.

One feature I find particularly cool here with the SX4 is the very adjustable 4wd settings. For years Ive wondered when someone was going to make a Transfercase/ Fluidic Transfer clutch layout. Its a partime transfer, with fulltime components. Very Innovative. Why didnt Subaru think of this? I for one think the European Swift should have been the better choice for Suzuki for the US market, but this one doesnt look too bad at least. The choice of engine, being a 2.0 (If its the Forenza or Reno's) worries me however. Its neither good on gas, refined, nor particularly powerful. The 2.3 From the Aerio should be stuffed into this car, and dump the Aerio altogether. The other question is: Will be able to get a 5 or 6 Speed manual to go along with the AWD, or will be stuck getting the Auto trans like in the Aerio Awd? That was one thing that turned me off from the Aerio. The Forenza and Reno would have been a much bigger hit had they used the Aerio motor instead. The SX4 could be a cross between the Aerio and the Reno. (Awd from the Aerio, and the engine and layout from the Reno all rolled into one). Suzuki seems to be "hit and miss" with major components in the last few years. Hope they can take the best features of older designs that worked well, and build a better mousetrap? I think Suzuki would be doing alot better if they would just pay more attention to product development/placement.
