Bill Ford's job must really suck. While he won't say when the North American automotive business unit will return to profitability after losing $1.4 billion in the first nine months of 2005, he is trying to convince interested parties that every business unit but the North American one will return to profitability in 2006. This includes the Premier Automotive Group, whose Jaguar brand continues to lead the unit into a combined $146 million in losses before taxes so far this year.

Ford's chat with Automotive News is a teaser for some big changes on the way, collectively called the "Way Forward," that will be presented once Mark Fields, head of Ford Americas, completes putting the finishing touches on them.
