DaimlerChrysler is expected to announce Monday that it will build a new production plant in North Charleston, South Carolina, to assemble Sprinter vans. The $30-40 million refit of an existing plant will employ around 200 workers, expanding to 1,800 by 2010. The facility should be operational by the end of 2006. The current Sprinter assembly plant is running at capacity and unable to meet growing demand.
