A consensus hasn't been made as to why, but Porsche Cayenne sales were down 26.5 percent in October from the same time last year, marking the tenth month the luxury SUV hasn't turned a profit. The once-wildly popular vehicle seems to be sharing more than a platform with the Touareg, which is down 36.9 percent from last year.
Porsche execs blame the drop on high gas prices and wavering consumer confidence, but word around the industry says that the SUV's problem is more that it is riddled with quality problems and is too big a stretch for the brand. Its first refresh is due in 2007.
