On Wednesday Ford recalled around 220,000 vehicles across six 2005 model lines for concerns that involve battery cables and fuel tank straps. The battery cables on the Ford Crown Victoria, Lincoln Town Car and Mercury Grand Marquis are apparently rubbing against the vehicle's frame, which could potentially cause a fire. The other recall involves the fuel tank strap on the newer Ford Freestyle, Five Hundred and Mercury Montego that could possibly separate after tens of thousands of miles. Yeah, we think that calls for a recall.
Ford itself discovered the fuel strap issue during high mileage durability testing of a future Five Hundred model. Thankfully the current models affected are not likely to have logged the 100,000 or so miles at which the strap is thought to be weak enough to break and drop the fuel tank. If you own a Five Hundred, Freestyle or Mercury Montego, contact your dealership ASAP to have this issue resolved.

[Thanks everyone for the tip]
