Audi R8 - from the track to the street!
Well, sort of. Audi announced Tuesday that the production version of the stunning Le Mans quattro concept car
(pictured) will be called the Audi R8, after the all-conquering Le Mans prototype racecar.
The new R8 will be built at Audi's Neckarslum plant under the direction of its subsidiary quattro GmbH. The factory
houses Audi's Aluminum Centre, and specializes in lightweight design technologies. Production is scheduled to begin in
the fourth quarter of 2006, with market availability in early 2007.

Estimated price is about 90 - 100K I priced close to or a bit higher then the M6. Target: 991 Turbo. My dealer is taking 20K deposits on it.

In EVO Audi personnel said they wanted it to be a 911s competitor. I just hope this doesn't turn into an Aston DB9 type situation- say it's meant to compete with Porsche, but by the time it rolls off the production line it's much closer to Ferrari territory. Beautiful, but ultimately just another rich man's toy.
