New HUDs for motorcycles hit the market
Motion Research Corporation has come out with heads-up display systems for motorcycles dubbed the SportVue MC1 and MC2, based on the "Top Gun" technology once only used in fighter jets. Rather than the displays being on the windshield, however, these mount to full-face motorcycle helmets. The displays give riders a view of speed, rpms and gear position, and in the case of the MC2, a radar alert. Pricing starts at $329 for the MC1 and $389 for the MC2.

What a great idea! When I get a bike, I'll have to check into getting one of these. I wonder how long it will take for these (HUD's) to show up in cars...

It's about time. This was something we talked about in the sportbike forums years ago. I believe at the time somebody had a patent on such a product but nothing was on the market. I'm glad to see it has finally come out. The price doesn't seem bad either.

1st off, HUDs for cars are already out there.
2nd, this thing doesn't use the same technology at all. Nothing it projected. It is nothing more than a goofy thing you hang on your helmet, and every person I know that saw this thing at Laguna Seca said it was kida cool, but there's no way they are going to stick this silly thing on their helmet.

Well, I guess it's got a certain "cool" factor to it (even though it looks kinda of goofy from the outside), but I don't see what the real benefit is - especially at $250-$300. I don't need anything to tell me what gear I'm in - and I already have a speedometer and tach that I can read at a glance *IF* I even need that. I can tell how fast my engine is reving by the sound of it and I don't need a gauge to tell me if I'm going into a turn too hot or not. If I'm just cruising down a straight, I certainly have time to glance down at the speedo. Neat toy, but unnecessary.

Anything that can make a single rider's trip safer is welcome in my book. I wouldn't buy one, but if someone else wants it, I'm glad it's available.

Yes, but the MC3 also acts as a fire control system for pylon-mounted pig-seeking missiles. Seeker heads liberally coated with pork fat are activated with a flick of the hidden switch and slaved to your helmet. Law enforcement spoiling your knee-down fun? Wheelie style cramped by the forces of self-importance? Not any more, with the MC3!
