Five years ago leasing accounted for 20 percent of sales at Ford. Autoweek reports that today that number is down to less than 10 percent, well below the industry average of 17 percent. In lieu of another round of deep incentives, Ford will be pushing its leasing program hard in the coming months with special deals on the Fusion, Explorer and Ranger. A Fusion lease, for instance, will require a 10 percent down payment with monthly payments of $199 for the four-cylinder and $249 for the six-cylinder model. Higher residual values of models like the Fusion and Five-Hundred give Ford the ability to offer competitive leases without adding large incentives to lower monthly payments.
