A bad place for a breakdown [SEMA]
Drivetrain failures are expected with off-roading, but they still suck, right? The guys in the above picture are
definitely not having a good day. Click below to see the true extent of their problems.
We viewed this disaster in progress over in the Warn rock-crawling exhibit, but didnt stick around to see if these guys ever made their way down without aerial assistance. Note the use of the lower buggys rear winch safety first!

And I thought I was the only one who ever had to winch my vehicle over a pile of fake rocks in a parking lot.

It is honestly not an unusual occurance at all. Those suspension systems are put under enormous stress, and eventually something will break. That rig's suspension might have just racked up to much abuse over the weeks, months, or maybe years depending on how often it is used and this might have been that last straw. If you recreationaly wheel a vehicle without ever breaking something you probably aren't pushing your's and the rig's capabilities (not necessarily a bad thing)
As for safety first, why don't they have blanket drapped over that winch line? I would not stand anywhere in the vicinity of that line either. If that line snapped it could easily killl somebody.

I agree with you MD about 2 things:
yes, suspensions like that are put under stress.. but lets look at this.. this is a sponsored vehicle. Not a weekend warrior. It should be in it's prime no matter the challenge.
Yes, there SHOULD be something over the winch line. I've seen 3/8" steel line snap and cause massive damage.

just to let everyone know this happened right after the super Crawl ( the biggest rock Crawling event of the year) 2 days before which this rig took 2nd and was run very hard. there was no time to check anything out before SEMA started and it was just the studs that broke and was fix in about and 1hr and drove off the rock and was back wheeling the rest of the week. As for as the winch line it is not a steel line this rig and all that compete in this sport use Synthetic Winch Rope. so if it brokes they do not pop around like steel. the line in the photo was just there for safty only there was no real stress on the line Very safe to work around. so before you open your mouth about something you should really get all the fact first.
