To follow up on Stuart's post on Volvo's smaller SUV, Automobile Magazine says that Volvo has confirmed the XC50.

Like the Volvo XC90 but looking for something a little more compact? Your wish may be granted with the Volvo XC50, expected to debut in mid-2006 as a 2007 model. Built on Ford's C1 platform (also home to the new Land Rover Freelander), various derivations of the vehicle will feature five- and six-cylinder engines starting at 165 hp.

thats a nice looking car 165hp is a bit spartan in my opinion. they should release a turbo edition w/250hp (have it compete against the infiniti fx, etc.)

I think a diesel motor offering would be nice. I don't know if Volvo sells diesels in Europe but the reliability and fuel efficiency of a diesel makes it a good match with this vehicle. Who cares about the low horsepower when you have all that torque a diesel can deliver? As I was once told; "salesmen sell horsepower but we drive torque". Either way, I am hoping to get an XC50 when available.
