Spy Shots: Audi A5 coupe
Meanwhile, The
Car Connection has found shots of what it believes is an actual A5 mule wearing the skin of what appear to be an
RS4. The design is of the A5 is said to be inspired by the
Nuvolari concept that debuted alongside
the LeMans concept at the 2003 Frankfurt Auto Show. Though the Nuvolari concept is a coupe, the A5 will be a canvas-top
convertible aimed to put Audi ahead of the A4 cabriolet's competition, which includes the BMW 3-Series convertible, the
Mercedes CLK and the upcoming VW Eos. Does that mean there'll be a price drop on the A4 cabriolet? Doubtful, but we can
dream.

You know, I've seen nothing but poorly done "artists impressions" of the A5. All of them seem to lazily combine a studio shot of the Nuvolari concept with current A4 sedan headlights, along with a natural background motion blurred in the wrong direction. This one adds the entire front end of the A4, wheels turning in the wrong direction, and a hastily added current A4 Cabriolet interior. They're lazy and unprofessional, and they give skilled industrial designers and illustrators a bad rap. As a comparison, this "artists impression" (http://www.flanaganid.com/maserati.jpg) took me all of 15 minutes to do, and IMO is of considerably higher quality than these so-called professional renderings published in usually-credible sources.

Looks fairly real to me, and definitely better than the Maserati job.
