THANK YOU.... Finally Honda is caught with some copying... I actually asked an Audi service rep. today about this. I think he said quite a nice thing "it just shows that Honda compliments the A4's design". Well to me it just shows how non-creative these Honda (and many other Japanese auto makers) is.

the taillights are almost identical, however, the hood to windshield angle seems to be more squarish on the audi, where it more or less "flows" on the civic, general shape is well just that, generally the same, however the gas tank cap is not appearant on the civic in the same location on the audi, upon closer inspection, you will notice how the rear doors follow the same exact curve up at the rear suggesting it may very well be the same platform, and it may just be the angle for the hood to windshield angle.

What is the deal tho with the 'Pontiac Tran Sport' window in front of the mirror and the knock off Tiburon mirrors? Honda copied Hyundai too...(yeah, I know they originally were copied by Hyundai off the Audi TT, but the Tib had them too)

They have similar rear tail lights and that makes them separated at birth? Hardly. The front ends are completely different, the side detailing is fairly unique, the general greenhouse shape is different, the c-pillars are noticably different, the sculpting of the rear facias/trunk lids are unique enough to not be confused. Even the tailights themselves are somewhat different in shape (outer edge) and detailing (reverse lights)
If tail light shape alone is all that is required to point the copycat finger, then the Acura RL, Pontiac G6, Scion tC and Hyundai Tiburon must be quadruplets.

if you cover up the tail lights, they both look like Anycar from that angle. so yeah, i'm quite sure Honda's been plundering Audi's designs in a top-secret reconnaisance mission led by the Sanrio menagerie. wouldn't you think they'd start by stealing Ingolstadt's renowned interiors first? besides, people said the Civic front-end also resembled a craptastic Saturn... in person, i think most would now disagree. while such comparisons are fun and allow autoblog to whore for comments, they simply ring hollow. bring back the hybrid/SUV bitch-fest!

Honda copied the A4 tail lights. VW copied the Toyota Corolla. Who was smarter?! ;-)

I certainly hope that Honda doesn't copy Audi's lack of quality....

I was parked by a 2006 Civic yesterday at school. I wasn't too impressed with it, at first I didn't noticed what it was, but when I walked behind my car and saw the taillights I went "Audi Civic??" and so I checked out the front end and confirmed that it was a new one. I really wish they gave us the big clear light bar thing the European version has. It would have been cool to see.

Speaking of copying....
John Neff: you're out of control with ripping off other sites. First it was Leftlane News. Now you rip Jalopnik. You write annoying cynical articles. I am going to take some time away from this site, and hopefully when if/when I return you're gone.
Goodbye.

the copying accusations are moronic and stupid, and from what i can tell, based ENTIRELY off the taillights.
only so many ways to make a taillight, you know
i'm bewildered as to why some hack of a writer thinks this is news, and why the first comment is so stoked

John Neff *is* a troll. The ironly in this article is he is a copier. I read the above mentioned sites now. Less hype, less bs, less weblogsinc plugs, etc, etc.

Someone answer this: Out of the infinite amount of shapes Honda could have chosen to make their new tail lights for the 2006 Civic why did they blatantly mimic the A4/S4/RS4 design? The 2005 Civic tail lights look nothing like it, so Honda cant state it was a natural progression of design or some other bullshit. I mean was it Hondas intent for their Civic to look exactly like the Audis at any distance? What does that say about them as a company?
Think about this Do you know how may Civics are sold and the class of people that drive them? The roads are going to be filled with these, all creating a huge disservice to the A4/S4/RS4s owners. The only saving grace will be that the majority of Civic owners with buy those cheap shiny aftermarket lights to make them feel good about driving an entry level sheep car.
And why cant this blog get a picture of an A4, or they dont know the difference between that and a S4?
