first of all, the average person can not really draw any similarity between any two cars, let alone these two. (its us on this website who can) And if you think about it these two cars look as similar as a celebrity and his/her impersonators. we don't see people outraged because someone looks almost identical to a famous person now do we.

How many different approaches to the automobile are left? Y'know the old saying about reinventing the wheel? Well, the same thing applies here to some extent. Stop bickering over what looks like what, because it's going to keep happening again, and again, and again, and again...please - all of you who are so bothered by this - find something better to do with your energy - like, perhaps, designing a car that doesn't look like any other car that's ever existed. ps - congratulations on being so observant...I wish I could nominate you for some kind of award...
November 21 2005 at 2:00 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI don't understand why some people care so much about the looks of a car, to the extent even upset on something like "who is copying who". The miata and S2000 are exact copies of the British MG. So waht ? Why should it bother anyone ? much less the tail lights of one car looks like that of another ... besides there is no patent on looks, isn't it ? Just enjoy the car you like, life is too short.

If anything, the Passat was based on the A4. The B5-coded platform was the last platform the Passat borrowed from Audi. The A4 has used two platforms since then. It's now up to B7. The current-model Passat uses a variation of Volkswagen's A platform, which Audi uses for the TT and A3. Any other attempts to discredit the A4 and make it seem like less than it really is?

Besides the tail lights on new Civic actually look like the ones on current Civic also, which everybody has missed here. So I am not sure if they really copied Audi.
October 11 2005 at 9:29 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMany people in the U.S. never learned to drive a stick shift. Before rise in imports, most U.S. cars with M/Ts were clunky crap as most of the engineering effort went to perfecting A/Ts. Newer cars are as economical and quick with A/T as with manual. And A/Ts, even though more costly to repair, might not need any repair at all. A driver who isn't skillful can kill a clutch in no time. I still think everybody should learn to drive a stick unless they have some physical limitation, but that's not going to happen in the U.S. If a car company wants volume, it must offer A/T here--even in sports cars.

Let's just say that I have some experience with people who would have loved to have bought either of the stick cars but wouldnt' because they don't come in automatic.

I know i know..a true sports car doesn't come in auto but there are many who want a sporty car with the convenience of an auto. The si and s2000 are stick only.
