Hybrids will incur losses but improve its image, GM chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner told the Financial Times on Monday. Unless gas hits $8 a gallon, consumers won't pay the cost to make the battery and other guts that go into making a hybrid.

Wagoner also gave some description of what GM hybrids will look like… or more accurately, what they won't look like. Like Toyota's Prius, GM will build completely unique models for its hybrids, rather than creating hybrid drivetrains for existing models like Ford did with the Escape and Honda did with the Civic.
