10,947. That's how many 1 Series vehicles BMW sold in August. By comparison, the total number of cars BMW sold in August was 85,079, making the 1 Series almost 13% of BMW's sales that month. For the year through August, the company sold nearly 100,000 units of the vehicle.
What does this mean to us? Why, that BMW should bring the 1 Series to the United States immediately, of course! Now, that's not taking into consideration BMW's assertion that Americans won't bite on hatchbacks, but we really need some competition for the Saab 9-2X and the Audi A3.
As Dr. Michael Ganal, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for sales and marketing, said about the strong European sales, "this confirms one of the main pillars of our premium strategy. Even in a segment which had previously been served almost exclusively by the volume manufacturers, there is a substantial demand for a convincing premium range." That sounds like the perfect reason to bring them here.
