The Manila Times reports

that a draft order to ban all forms of motorsport is now awaiting President Arroyo's signature. The order was drafted by the Department of Energy as part of a national campaign to save fuel.

Apparently more of a PR gesture by the government than an element of a coherent energy policy, the move echoes an earlier martial law edict by former President and legendary money launderer Ferdinand Marcos.

The proposed ban is opposed by local racing organizations, including the Asian F3 series and the Automobile Association of the Philippines.
