Official Honda Civic Photos
We've been on the look out for the official pictures of the new 2006 Honda Civic. The popular site for Honda enthusiasts, The Temple of VTEC, has posted a ton of new photos of the new car. Also included are some press releases covering what changes can be found on the new models. You will also find pictures of the Hybrid and Si models in addition to the regular coupe and sedan. We have another post to follow that is about the Si specifically. Thanks Nathan for the tip.

I am very excited by this. My girlfriend is totally getting a hybrid for our anniversary.

I checked out the 2006 Civic Hybrid. Nice, lookin' better in many ways (or at least more interesting) than big brother/sister Accord. And while the powertrain's not the greatest (yeah, I like horsepower and torque like the next car enthusiast), it's nothing to sneeze about especially with up to 50 mpg. And, more importantly, that figure qualifies it for the diamond lanes out here in SoCal which is real useful during traffic jams.

This car has upped the ante considerably and it comes at a fortuitous time for Honda because of fuel prices. Comparisons to the Mazda3 are fair. Everything else in the category right now is a generation behind (yes, Cobalt I am looking at you)

The new Civic hybrid now has air conditioning which works even at stoplights (when the engine is off) because it has an electric motor to run it now (wonder where they got that idea?) and as everyone can see, it is more aerodynamic and has little panes of glass ahead of the front outside mirrors (where'd they get that idea?) plus it can apparently now run for short distances on electric only (hmmm, d'ya think they looked at a 2004 Prius?)
OK I'm being to harsh on Honda, and while I do love my Prius, I have to give genuine kudos to Honda - and muted harrahs to Nissan which is also going to join the hybrid fray soon with an Altima hybrid (using licensed Toyota tech).
Every new hybrid on the road means less oil imported, and a more secure, free USA.

More horsepower, better fuel mileage, fresher styling -- all across the line.
Nice.

Stupid question, but why is it that Honda (and Mazda) don't use RDS-enabled headunits? I mean, practically every fm station now uses RDS, and more and more manufacturers offer it as OEM. What's up with that?

hmmm, d'ya think Toyota looked at the 2000 Honda Insight?

Great stuff technically. Not liking the looks, though.

I like it.
That Civic coupe is a FANTASTIC looking car. I'd buy an Si and have the dealership swap the decklid with that from a lower model to lose that dumb wing.

The new Honda Civic isn't bad looking, but to me it looks a little like a smaller version of the Pontiac G6. If Oprah gives away the '06 Civic on her show, I want tickets!

It looks like a saturn ion. (not a good thing)

Saw the new Civics at one of Honda's preview parties and both the coupe and sedan look better than their photos suggest.
The new Civic is a winner IMO. Would be better if the European hatchback version were also offered in the U.S., though.

ahhh, they finally got around to putting VTEC across the civic line. Forcing people to "upsell" to an EX, HX or Hybrid for nifty VVT tech was tacky, especially when competitors like Mazda and Toyota had it on all their models. Kudos also to adding drive-by-wire and 5-speed automatics.

The sedan in the photo looks like a bloated Echo with a Camry backend. This is worse than the current Accord sedan. Hopefully the car looks better on the road.

Joseph:
"Why do you say that?"
Simply because it was the first Hybrid brought to the US market and I'm sure somebody at Toyota looked at it, saw its good and bad points and then helped engineer the 2nd generation Prius.
Glenn was just giving Honda a hard time by implying they copied parts of the Prius, I was just defending Honda and Glenn's implication by implying Toyota has gotten ideas from other manufacturers as well.
Glenn:
"has little panes of glass ahead of the front outside mirrors"
Is there any signifigance to this that I'm missing or do you mention it simply because it has a similar look? My previous car, a 93 f-150, had a pane of glass ahead of the outside mirror that could be opened and used as great alternative to AC :)

The 5-speed auto is cool. I wish you could get a CVT in the non-hybrid models (after all, they have it in the Fit/Jazz).. Maybe in the next few years.

I prefer the looks of the coupe to the sedan, myself. The sedan looks bulky. I was suprised to find out that the coupe, however, has smaller dimensions inside than the 7th generation. Less rear legroom, less headroom.
It's nice that Honda has also made available the satellite linked navigation, including the voice commands, from the Accord.
