This is Ford concept is set to debut at the Frankfurt show in September. It's hard to believe this is a Ford, but if you look at previous concepts, like the Ford SAV, you can see the new direction their design team is taking. While the Iosis will probably never make it into production, especially for North America, elements of the design may find its way into other Ford products. We can't help but think that the Mercury brand could use this kind of European flair to separate it from the pack. Regardless, the concept is beautiful and you have to admit that Ford has some talented designers in its ranks. Thanks to AGV for the tip.

Looks like the Mazda design division might have had some influence: RX-8 front fender bulges and Mazda 6 tail lights. Looks nice.

Hey it's quite sexy. What about it's fuel consumption? 5 mpg? ;)
laserwizard @ Dec 18th 2005 10:45PM
Wow. That is stunning. Build it NOW!
tbyron @ Dec 18th 2005 10:45PM
Click through to the article...it has "design elements" that will be part of next generation Mondeo (US gets the Fusion instead).
Interior is cool. Note the sweeping arm of the center console...an extension of the design innovation in the Volvo S40/V50.

I really hate the front wheel well from the RX8 and certain current Mazda models.
WillDaThrill @ Dec 18th 2005 10:45PM
I would say to name it the Probe because it reminds me a little of it. But that wouldn't do the car any justice that car has hot written all over it. Hope the Euros have fun with it since we will probably get shafted yet again if it comes into production. Hummm, maybe they should call it the Probe.

Wow. Hey, if Ford can take some stuff from Mazda for its upcoming Fusion, Milan, and Zephyr, I think Mazda should takes of the styling cues from this losis. I mean, the Japanese company already has some of the features as noted by the various comments. (That rear looks very RX-8.)

Nice, but I've always thought Lambo-style flip up doors on a four-door just look silly.
Merkis @ Dec 18th 2005 10:45PM
Wow, I like this! Amazing, it's a Ford!

SWEET
Luxury Larry @ Dec 18th 2005 10:45PM
looks like it should be a JAG proto rather then a ford. the front shares a resemblance to the new high end JAG model that's been posted on the AB site.
Joseph Willemssen @ Dec 18th 2005 10:45PM
Gullwing suicide doors? How practical!
Rene Curry @ Dec 18th 2005 10:45PM
Make it rear drive on the Mustang platform, regular opening doors, spare the cost adders, and this would fly out the doors of Ford dealers.
William Crabtree @ Dec 18th 2005 10:45PM
Looks like they saved some tooling by using a Mazda front fender. Poor Ford...sad
GLEEFUL @ Dec 18th 2005 10:45PM
A ripoff of Audi Nuvolari. Get rid of the ford logo, and I'll give a nod.
freightliner @ Dec 18th 2005 10:45PM
Looks like the stole something here something there something everywere.
Mike Parris @ Dec 18th 2005 10:45PM
The concept (very Mazda-ish) looks absolutely great. But Ford's problem is that they always end up with a final design like the "500." Now that they are up against the wall, really in a final desperation mode, you'd think they might build something that would "wow" the crowds for once. But I'd bet not. Not in time, at least.
ETMC @ Dec 18th 2005 10:45PM
Reminds me a lot of the Mercury MC4 concept a few years back.
I wouldn't mind seeing this in a Merc dealer in the future. Bring the European design to Mercury, as GM is with Saturn.
Jayson Elliot @ Dec 18th 2005 10:45PM
I agree with all the comments about the Mazda influence. The best part for me is that it really reinforces my own choice of car - yet another reason to be glad I drive a Mazda 3 hatchback.
