Jaguar Takes the Cover off the 2007 XK
Ever since the debut of the Jaguar Advanced Lightweight Coupe (ALC) concept at the 2005 Detroit auto show in January, we've been eagerly awaiting its production version, the new XK to appear. During the past months, we've seen various spyshots and now, finally, Jaguar has announced the arrival of its most stunning car in recent memory. Designed by Ian Callum, who also worked on the gorgeous Aston Martin DB9 and Vanquish, the new XK bares a striking resemblance to its Aston cousins. The all-aluminum 2007 XK is stiffer and lighter than its predecessor and is powered by a 4.2L V8 that produces 300 bhp. 0-60 comes just under 6 seconds and top speed is limited to 155mph. The new XK will hit showrooms next spring, with plans for the convertible to be announced later this year.
Bunch more pics after the jump.

Ah, the Jagston Martin gets the greenlight. I like the styling of Aston Martins and I like the styling of Jags. However, I'm not really feeling a lot of love for Jags styled like Aston Martins.

Good looking car, but it needs at least 50 hp more in the base configuration.

Nice looking vehicle. I'm interested to see how the convertible ends up looking and if it will actually fit a tall driver. It'd be nice to see the real specs on these vehicles, too.
I wonder about the rear visibility on the coupe, looking at the pics.
In any case, a nice design move forward for Jaguar.

This has to be one of the most beautiful designs I've seen in the last 10 years... It screams Jaguar without having to dip too far into the retro trend.

I don't care for it. Don't get me wrong, it's a very nice looking car, but it doesn't look like a Jaguar. There are too many familiar (to other brands) styling cues, especially from the side profile. Jaguars have generally been very distinctive cars with their very own styling that you can recognize instantly. This car doesn't have it.

I would have to disagree with previous comments. I think it looks too derivative. The fron reminds me too much of the current Taurus.
(And no, don't give me the tired argument that the Taurus copied from the original XK. If the design has been copied, it is a sign that the originators need to move on).
Bottom line, I dont like it. Moot point of course, since I won't be able to afford one any time soon. But this certainly wont bring me in to the Jag showroom to look at other Jags that I can afford.

I think it looks pretty sharp, but the nose bumper and the rear-wheel shoulders both detract somewhat.

Looks like the Henrik Fisher-designed Aston's with a Jaquar-esque front clip...very very sad.
I am sure that Sir William Lyons is not happy as he looks down on that one.
I do like the hatch, though. Too bad it extends to the bumper and isn't hinged from the side like the original E-Type coupe'.

I agree with the comments that it is not distinctive enough... attractive but has a common sort of look to it.
I actually thought the prior post of the concept S-type were much more attractive.

Sorry... it looks like they bolted the front end of a Taurus on to an unsuspecting Jag XK. Not exactly an inspired design IMO.

That's about right. Wish I could afford one.

not impressed. way too much aston going there.. way too much. if i had a aston i'd be mad. and if i drive this car i'd be embarrassed that it's a aston copy.
hate the droopy eyes.. c'mon, it's a cat, man! this made it look like a sad puppy.

It looks like a Taurus ran into a DB7.

It's definitely an improvement over the concept vehicle. I'm glad to see they dropped all the gratuitous metallic trim and toned down those (still) ugly side vents, which in the concept dominated any profile or 3/4 view.
The roofline turned out really nice, with a great classic coupe look. I don't like the taillights at all, but the straight rear view is very nice, with a broad stance that reminds me just a bit of a 911.
But the front. Ooooh, the front. It ruins the car. It doesn't look Jag at all. The grille has a little bit of reminiscence of XKs past, but it looks more Taurus than anything else. The headlights are pretty much just formless blobs carelessly tossed into the corners. The whole effect of the front is one that has very little shape or definition to it, and so it's just kind of there. There's little character there, there's definitely nothing the screams "look at me," and it's definitely missing that shark-nose character of the current XK and many Jag coupes of the past, all the way back to the E Types.
It's good to see improvements compared to the concept, but this Jag still misses the boat, IMO.

There's not "Jagness" there. Nice car, no soul. (though if it were in my driveway, I'd hardly complain)

Although I don't like the headlights, I'd still hit it.

i agree, it looks beautiful, but a little too Aston Martin like. not signature Jaguar but a step in the right direction.
still, what's up with the front end? the lights have FORD written all over it. looks kinda goofy, like a beautiful woman with a model body and crossed eyes.

They should do a Lincoln version.
The Mark IX.
