With all of the discussion and criticism about having hybrids in HOV or car pool lanes, one thing we applaud California for is issuing special hybrid decals. These decals, which cost $8 for one vehicle, are only given to hybrids that qualify. Basically, they must get at least 45 miles per gallon and be low-emissions vehicles. The decal set comes with four stickers, one for the front, rear, and one for each side. This type of visually distinctive decal along with specific restrictions on which hybrids qualify is a step in the right direction.
