A team of four men has driven a production Prius to an average of just over 110 MPG for a full tank of fuel, taking nearly 48 hours and traveling almost 1400 miles along the way. Driving on a 15-mile stretch of Route 65 and with the goal of obeying traffic laws (one driver did get busted for going too slow), I don't think there's any way to describe this feat other than "amazing". Sure, many might say that the "pulse-and-glide" technique has limited relevance to the real world, but most of the motorsport activities I enjoy aren't all that relevant, either. The team ran with the Low Fuel light illuminated for more than eight hours, which is about 7:55 longer than I could have gone before stopping for fuel.
