We can't wait until the new The Dukes of Hazard movie opens and heads straight to video so we can stop posting on possible promotional tie-ins with Dodge's new Charger. The latest comes from a customizing shop called Custom South near Tampa, FL that has placed up for auction on eBay the opportunity to buy one of three limited edition "General Lee" Dodge Chargers for $49,000 a pop. The description provides no details on how deep the custom job goes, but obviously paint, decals, wheels, and a genuine Confederate flag on the roof are part of the package. Sales begin today to coincide with the opening of The Dukes of Hazard, though this promotion appears in no way to be endorsed by either the film or DaimlerChrysler.

Put a flag on it and number and sell it for an extra $15,000. People are too greedy in this country.

Of course it can't compare to the original, but this one beats the last attempt:

What do some Nebarakans know about making a General Lee? At least the Florida boys weren't scared to put the flag on top.
PS - I highly doubt the movie will go straight to video

On a related news, VW is selling limited edition of Phaeton with the Nazi flag on its roof.
Robert Aitchison @ Dec 18th 2005 11:06PM
#6 actually this would be like some german customizer selling a Pheaton with the swastika added.
Also, even ignoring the context of the vehicle (as a tribute to the original "General Lee" vehicle from the Dukes of Hazard) I think maybe you should think twice before comparing the confederacy and the secession of the southern states to the third reich. Or did Jefferson Davis have some plan to commit genocide that I missed in history class?
Of course if you ignored the context you would be an idiot.
Ferrari Driver @ Dec 18th 2005 11:06PM
WOW great looking car wil make big money on ebay selling to a gambling site or something.
7of7 @ Dec 18th 2005 11:06PM
I agree with #6. Although the specific details of the third reich were different from those of the Confederacy, the bottom line was still "I'm an asshole that thinks I'm better than people that are different than me and I'll kill anyone who says anything different." Even though there were many economic factors that contributed to secession, for the most part that flag now represents nothing but racism. I'm sick of it's glorification by drunken white trash. Though I hate what they say, I'll defend to the death their rights to day it.
royalh @ Dec 18th 2005 11:06PM
#7 - No, not genocide, just slavery. Somewhat similar, but with slavery the torment lasts longer. Plus you want subsequent generations for continued servitude.

Where's that RASCAL Cooter?!?! The SomBi$@h skipped out on his child support and has been up to no good!!! Running moonshine when he should be down there at the Hyundai plant working on the line. Those Koreans REALLY need to keep that little bas$@#d in line...and I mean now!!!
Shawn @ Dec 18th 2005 11:06PM
Robert Aitchison, while you may not think the enslavement of an entire race of people as genocide, I do. I suspect that James Byrd Jr., who was dragged to death by men with the Confederate flag tattooed on their bodies, probably agrees with me. I suspect those who picked up the pieces of his body along the road for 2 miles probbably agrees with me too.

toyota needs to buy daimlerchrysler fast!!!
Erik @ Dec 18th 2005 11:06PM
Folks, settle down. The flag on the top of the General Lee never once flew over a slave ship. The American flag you may have adorning your car however, flew over hundreds of them. So enough with the self-righteousness.
iQuack @ Dec 18th 2005 11:06PM
Is the number on the side of that car the IQ of the person who buys it?
BF @ Dec 18th 2005 11:06PM
What's next, A white Ford F-150 called thwe Uncle Jesse, perhaps a white Jeep Wrangler with DIXIE on the hood....even better a new Ford tow truck with Cooters Garage on the side...a white Caddy XLR for fatt guys named Hogg, a white 300C with a Roscoe P. Cultrain model that includes a free hound dog "Flash" with every model sold and a green Chevy Impala with lights on it called the Chickasaw County interceptor....maybe GM could throw in a Sheriff Little action figure.
Sheriff Little was the best. He was one bad a$$ black guy.
dfd @ Dec 18th 2005 11:06PM
Question: Does it have a horn that plays Dixie?
Robert Aitchison @ Dec 18th 2005 11:06PM
So we should denegrate, even ban a symbol because of those who use it for dark purposes? if that's the case we should destroy all the Christian crosses, people have comitted some pretty terrible crimes under it's banner throughout history. Maybe we should ban the American flag because of what the US Army did to American Indians, it's a symbol of oppression I tell you!!!
The Confederate flag was on the original General Lee and nobody cared, because we weren't such uptight oversensitive pussies who were incapable of understanding historical context.
The Duke boys weren't the slightest bit racist yet today they would be instantly branded as such only because of the flag painted on the roof of their car.
Erik @ Dec 18th 2005 11:06PM
Re #12 - Shawn, I call your attention to the case of Edward Myers, and Ohio man who brutally murdered his wife in front of their children in 1974, then proceded to beat, stab, and leave his Ex-girlfriend for dead in 1996. Myers sports a cricifix tattoo on his arm. Is this an evil symbol that we should ban and supress as well?
