Sales of the Z4 have not met BMW's expectations, falling every year since the car's introduction in 2002 to 25,298 units this year. A coupe version of the Z4 is being planned to bolster sales until the car's replacement, dubbed the E89, arrives in 2009. The coupe appears to have a Bangle butt, although overall we think the look is more pleasing than the awkward BMW M Coupe that appeared near the end of the first generation's run. If the coupe does sell well, expect another coupe version of the E89 when it debuts.

is that an actual picture. if it is, it beats the accord's ugly rating by a mile.

absolutely fugly. didn't think they could make a z4 look more awkward than the previous gen, but then this is bangle we are talking about. bmw used to be praised for its classic and timeless lines, now they get laughed at.

to mangle a quote, "only fast cars are interesting". if they stuff a lightweight 400hp turbo 3.0 motor under the hood, it is going to be a lust machine. forget the lit, the word on the street is that the new motor easily makes 400hp in m division trim. as to the original m coupe, it was never intended for mass sales. it was not even an official bmw project when the first car was built. books have described how the first coupe was built by bmw engineers as a black project in their spare time. after the fact bmw decided to build a few. these were race specials in the tradition of the ac cobra. existing chassis, with a bunch of bracing, fitted with a big motor and a sweetly balanced chassis. that the m coupe was designed to race was very apparant as soon as the cars hit the street. a major british magazine got hold of an early car and voted it driver's car of the year. bill arnold got hold of one and took it to canada for the gruelling 2,200km targa newfoundland rally, which he won against a gaggle of porsches. a british team recently won the gt3 championship in a coupe... the original m coupe is quickly amassing a race record completely out of proportion with the limited number of cars that were built. and, evo magazine in the uk timed a stock s54 m coupe from 0-60 in 4.3 seconds. they then took one to the track with every other m model ever built, and laid down one of the fastest times ever achieved by a factory bmw. the vaunted m1 was not even close. if the z4 is even faster, bring it on! greg miller team pirates of lime rock

ive drawn better takes on a bmw coupe theme and thrown them out. i know this is a photoshop-chop, but its gonna be hard to make the somewhat ungainly z4 into a sexy coupe. as a friend of mine says: "its hard to make chicken salad out of chicken s!@*."

i disagree. the bmw m coupe is one of my favorite designs of all time. i've owned two and hope to own one again one day.

this thing is so ugly. the boxster or tt are far superior in design and curb appeal.

add me to the list of m coupe lovers. have never owned one, but it's at the very top of my list of cars i hope to have in my stable some day. the z4 coupe, while not as cool imho as the m coupe, is still pretty darn sexy. much better than the roadster.

i seem to be a rarity. i've seen this photo a few times during the past week and think it looks pretty hot. i usually really dislike convertibles, but the z4 is one of the few i like and having a coupe version would be even better. the only thing i wish they would do is get rid of the line going across the nose by re-incoporating the grill as part of the hood.
