You can stop holding your breath now. The Pontiac Solstice will be in dealer showrooms during the first week of August. The first 1000 cars have been set aside for people who placed orders during the promotion that ran on The Apprentice and Pontiac has already taken 9,000 orders for the $20,000 rag top, which is more than all of the Miatas sold by Mazda last year. The TCC article also notes that while many components of the Solstice are derived from the GM parts bin, the car also includes some trick technology like the first use of large pieces of hydroformed sheetmetal. Expect demand for the Solstice to be pent up for quite some time, as GM will slowly ramp up production to ensure a smooth roll out with no recalls.
