GM and Toyota will invest over $142 million to renovate their joint venture plant in California. The New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc joint venture produces the Toyota Corolla, Tacoma, and the Matrix/Vibe twins. Nearly half of the investment will be directed toward unifying the paint processes at the plant. The rest will go toward renovating the assembly line. GM used to get more out of this plant. We would hardly qualify the Pontiac Vibe as an important part of GM's lineup. This plant is important to Toyota, however. Output is expected to reach 410,000 units per year in this fiscal year. That is right behind the Camry factory in Kentucky, which produces 470,000 per year.
