Wheels24 is reporting that BMW may
be developing an entirely new line of cars to go head to head with Mercedes' new R-Class. According to insiders the
V-series of cars is being developed under the title of Space Functional Concept (SFC) and will most likely debut with a
V5 or V6 model. Since the R-Class offers three rows of seats we might as well assume the first V-series model would
too, along with the requisite bunch of gizmos and gadgets. The picture above is an artist's impression of what a BMW V5
could like, although it appears less like a tall crossover wagon, a la the R-Class, and more like a normal wagon with
bulging fenders and a third row suitable only for elves and leprechauns.

I would much rather have one of these than an SUV...

They have the M class SUVs which could be stretched and they have the wagon version of the sedan, which the picture most looks like.
Do they plan a "Pacifica" style large wagon/squished minivan. Yah...go BMW that is the new market identity to go for. It matches your asian theme styling.
Christiaan @ Dec 18th 2005 11:05PM
I'm not too sure.
-It looks like a Volvo wagon.
-It doesn't sound cool to say "I drive a V6."
-Would this run into problems with Cadillac for the "V" series name?
Tom Morgan @ Dec 18th 2005 11:05PM
The "artist's concept" is a Mazda3 hatchback that's been Photoshopped. Just gave the 3 a bath yesterday I know the curves very well. Since the 3 is the same platform as the Volvo S50/V50, I totally agree with Christiaan. Maybe BMW should just buy some Ford parts and BWM-ize them with Photoshop.
Toneroo @ Dec 18th 2005 11:05PM
Shouldn't BMW be concentrating on improving the quality of the cars it currently builds instead of spending a whole bunch more money on a whole new line af cars? The German manufacturers are going to end up like Ford and GM. Why can't they just add a wagon version to the current series' and leave it at that?

The naming of cars just keeps getting worse. "Hey man what you driving? V5, baby, V5!" Jesus. :disgust:
