Make it lighter and mid-engined, but allow people to get in for $35k reasonably equipped, $40k loaded. I would be marketing heaven for Nissan... they'd be producing one of 3 affordable mid-engines cars in America: 1 of them, the Elise, is a glorified go-kart, and the other, the Cayman, would be stretching "affordable" at at least $65k. If their next V6 is even better than the current, that could be one hell of a bargain.
They do have to watch out for the Corvette. You can get into one well equipped for $43k... only $5k more than Nissan expects people to pay for a 350Z.
