2007 Jeep Wrangler Spy Shots
Jeep is expected to release a redesigned Jeep Wranger in 2007. The new Wrangler, codename
TK, will debut as a 2-door, but a longer wheelbase four door and a truck variant are planned. Other potential
changes include a fixed roof with removable panels instead of a soft top and a separate hard top. Removable doors
and a fold-down front windshield should still be available. The powertrain options will change as well. The base
engine will be a 2.4-liter four with an optional 3.7-liter SOHC V-6 from the Liberty. A 4.7-liter V8 may be an option
later. Gone is the straight-6 that has been an icon in the Wrangler. While that engine was fine for off-road
ventures, honestly it felt winded at interstate speed. It also appears that the tail lights might be
integrated.

No soft top on the wrangler will seriously hurt sales... integrated tail lights are a long time coming, though.
Bottom line: if the new wrangler is aftermarket-friendly the public will embrace it.
When the TJ wrangler came out in 1996, the aftermarket was kept a little in the dark, so products were slow to hit the market - couple this with a no 1996 model year, and there was a lull in wrangler popularity at that time... plus in the 1995 year, Chrysler was really pushing the anemic 2.5L I4 engine.

they should put the common rail diesel into that thing, instead of the v8. the Wrangler does NOT need a v8.

Yeah, it defenitely needs the 2.8L CRD as an option. Hell, make it standard -- nobody buys the Wrangler expecting a quiet, silky-smooth engine.
Also... could we please get some real writing, rather than regurgitating every word in the article linked? Why not just link the article with a one-sentence description rather than re-wording the pargaraphs someone else wrote?

The article's a waste - a lot of its old, and the rest (removable doors, 2-door launching first) seems to go against everything else I've read. But the spy shots are nice to see.
Are those integrated rock sliders under the door sills? Nothing says side-impact protection like 1/4-inch box steel.

Autoblog, I have no idea who your source is, but it looks you're off on this one.
A 4 door TKL is still planned for production, as is the truck, to debut a year after the introduction of the TK and TKL. Yes, the TK will feature removable body panels and a fixed rear roof. But seriously, for those who want a removable hardtop/soft top, there are plenty of used CJs, YJs and TJs out there.
And if that's not good enough and you have enough automotive building experience, you can build your own vehicle.
Nevertheless, I'm very excited to see the upcoming TK and TKL. My sources tell me that everything from the rear front doors to the front bumper of the Jeep Gladiator concept (with small, subtle cosmetic changes) will see it's way into production of the Jeep TK and TKL.

No, I think it's in there: "The new Wrangler, codename TK, will debut as a 2-door, but a longer wheelbase four door and a truck variant are planned."

The Jeep Wrangler line will benefit from new models but the sotf top Wrangler is a must. I would like to see instead of the 3.7 liter V6 a more modern engine like the 3.5 liter V6 found in other DaimlerChrysler cars. The pickup truck must go to Dodge and bring back a new version of the Rampage.

i wonder if the V8 will be considered an SRT model. even thoug its only the 4.7 thats still hella power for a little jeep. not only would i like to see the 2.8 diesel, i want a Cummins diesel from the Ram trucks

The cosmetics are inconsequential, (it will however be
disturbing if the TK does not have a removable top - Kevin, how many vehicles do you own?) its the capability
that must remain true, as the wrangler has long since been associated with fresh off the assembly line off-road ability! The replacement of the classic I6 is sad news, but a 2.8L CRD would be an awesome engine option that seems feasable, after all its an option on the liberty.

It is a shame that the company has lost touch with Jeep. Removable panels instead of a removable soft top, just doesnt cut it for a true Jeep. If people were worried about safety they would buy something different. It is a shame that the legendary l6 is on its way out. It was rumored that the Hemi would be installed, but I would be happy with the 4.7. I would like to see pictures of the new dash layout. That would be a welcome change.

No soft upper door options? That'll be a sad day...that's what I've always loved most about the Wranglers I've owned. I'm a soft-top purist...I'd buy a Grand Cherokee if I wanted a hard top. It would be nice if they at least had the option for a soft top. If I can actually hear my cell phone at 60 MPH in the new incarnation, I'll know something is terribly wrong. :)

I have also heard the 4 door will be first and the 2 will follow 5 weeks later. No soft top is a mistake. I have also heard that the 2.8 crd will not be an option but the 4 door will have the 5.7 hemi as an option. my biggest questions are what t-case will it have and will it have a solid front axle. IFS on the wrangler will ruin the last true off road vehicle.

they are making a serious mistake on getting rid of the inline six it has proven itself over the years it is better balanced then the v6 and the torque is better then the v 6 and as for the looks they better not fool with it wrangler is hertiage not modern do not make it look like everything else out there.that is what happens when you let engineers have there way do not fix something that is not broke.

Toledo Blade (newspaper) published an announcement from UAW that the Toldeo Jeep Plant will also offer the new CR Diesel (due to unexpected success of this powerplant in the new "Liberty?") for the new TK. This was newsworthy as it means more jobs or security for the region.
