A sister company to MG Rover, called Powertrain, has caused major engine supply problems for Land Rover. When MG Rover went into administration, so did Powertrain and the gasoline engines they supply to Land Rover ceased to be produced. Gas powered Freelander production has been slowed and output is being shifted to other countries that account for higher Freelander sales. Land Rover has halted any new shipments of Freelanders to North America. Prospects for any new production from Powertrain are slim, which probably means no more Freelanders for us until the next generation bows late next year powered by Ford engines.
