The Touareg and Phaeton didn't do it. VW lost $1.2 billion in North America last year and products that push into the $60,000 mark was not going to turn that around. Volkswagen is preparing 13 new models in the next 2 years including a small SUV, Jetta wagon and a convertible. The Beetle will get a freshening, the Passat and Passat wagon are on their way and the new Golf and GTI are long overdue. Price points will again be a concern, as seen by the sticker of the new Jetta, but at least VW is now focusing on their core products instead of the elite.
