Those that can't wait for a new Prius have been paying $1,000 to $3,000 over the sticker price for a used one. The hybrid is becoming a small moneymaker for those that waited for a new one and will just turn around and sell it for a few-thousand dollars profit. Others are spending thousands over sticker to "hedge against gas prices". At least there is one sane voice in the story; a senior analyst for Kelley says that all you are doing is paying to be the first on your block to have one.
