Since what we are looking at here is the next streetable Suzuki SUV, we wanted to share some photos from the press kit. Inside, the dash appears near-production ready and the seats exude the same vibe. Looks very clean and modern inside. Outside, a few tweaks will need to be made to make production, but overall we don't expect many changes. The rear pillar's design that flows into the taillights is visually pleasing, but we worry about rearward vision. Power is being estimated at 185 hp and a five-speed automatic transmission will get power to the four-mode, full-time, 4x4 system. Looks promising for Suzuki.

Give us a break. It's a Equinox. It's not even convincingly restyled, like the Equinox vs. the Vue. Power is "estimated" at 185, eh? Is it also "estimated" to come from a Chinese built Chevy pushrod V6? Wouldn't that be a freakin' coincedence!
That said, it looks better than the Equinox without that silly "me-too" chrome bar, and I've always been a fan of the rear mounted spare if for no other reason than to open up extra storage space.
Alan Bedenko @ Dec 18th 2005 10:31PM
The Equinox design elements are most pronounced in the rear, but the nose looks like a Saab 9-7x.
The dash is phenomenal and just goes to show you that GM's interior design is now better than it was, but nowhere near where it could or should be.
David Thomas @ Dec 18th 2005 10:31PM
alan,
do youmean GM's design or daewoo? I mean suzuki's as much as people rip them apart have pretty nice interiors. one of the main things that distressed me about the vue and equinox were really cheap interiors. this looks nicer than both. and i like the front end better too. they have to get rid of those clear taillights though! they look so cheap. what's wrong with red taillights again?
JAG @ Dec 18th 2005 10:31PM
Mmm, the grill and lights look like a Touareg rip off. The interior is nice.
Alan Bedenko @ Dec 18th 2005 10:31PM
Sorry, Dave - I wasn't clear.
I think Suzuki's dash for this trucklet reveals how cheap and dated GM's new interior designs already look.
GM better start innovating with interiors and stop playing catch-up.
Hopefully, Opel can teach the domestic marques a thing or two about it.
Autoguy @ Dec 18th 2005 10:31PM
Wow that looks really good, and close to production. I hope they don't downgrade it too much. If the fuel economy is decent, it could sell well.
David Thomas @ Dec 18th 2005 10:31PM
I think/hope they'll change the bottome of the front fascia. that's the only bad looking part.

Saw the brochure marked "confidential" for the new series of Vitara coming to Singapore in June. The new models come close to the X2 concept, except that the front grille is replaced with plastic black netting, the lower front bumper is much shorter with a nice black protector.
The tail lights are in tradition red, and design does not differ much, while the interior looks exactly like the X2 concept. Manual 4x4 selection has been replaced with the dial control situated below the flushed out cd/tuner on the silver trimmed centre console.
4 different models available, 3 doors 1.6cc, 5 doors 2.0cc & 2.7cc and another 5 doors with diesel engine.
When the new models are out, it sure give Rav4 a good time!

is see a little Lexus IS in the dash ... very nice.
