I consider myself a lucky one, I got to meet Carroll Shelby and was standing right at the GT500 when they decided to start the bad boy up. Sounds great – all that makes a musclecar fan giddy. Enjoy all these photos as I enjoyed taking them.
# 62, you've waited too long to ask that question. After the March 2005 auto show I contact 2 specific dealers and worked with them to start a list. I am the first at both dealers to be called when a bill order is ready. I have kept in touch with both on a regular basis and the list at one dealer was over 120 people and the other dealer was at approx 85. Keep in mind these will not be rolling into car lots by the truck load but maybe a few at a time the first year to authorized dealers. 7000 cars are not very may to divide among all authorized dealers.

Can anyone recomend a good dealer for me to contact and get on the waiting list with. I will need to export the vehicle so I am looking at a dealer with a great after service. Thank in anticipation

But, lest we forget that options tick up quickly and most of us will want at least one or two. Its still a bargain no matter how you cut it up. As far as the "retro" thing and GM fans preaching about new body styles. Think about this - the Corvette is an icon, but looking back, it's maintained its body characteristics for well over 30 years (quad-round tail lights / flat tail / long hood / swooping fenders / and until recently, pop up headlights, etc. to name a few). Point is, Ford is just getting back to a classic body style that Chevy has never really left. Any mention of the GTO or Charger in comparison to the Shelby is a joke. The only true icon in its class is and will be the Vette Z06. But, the Vette is slated to price at least $25k higher for a max of 55hp. For less than $20, you can upgrade the pulley on the supercharger and blow the doors off of the Z06. Not bad... I will mention that the SRT-8 Charger is going to be a modest contender, but I (like most other opinions that I've seen posted) can't stand the body style and think that 4 doors on a muscle car is absolutely ridiculous. Last thing, then I'll get off of my soap box. I'm a die hard BMW fan and have been for years. I drive an E46 M3 and have owned 2 beemers prior to this one. In my opinion, they just do it right... BUT, with all my passion for german automotive innovation, I'm hanging it up for the Shelby. Why? Because you simply cannot compete with the power to dollar ratio of a mustang. It's always been that way and will always be that way if Ford keeps their eye on the ball. If the "feel" is off, then I'll spend another $5k on suspension mods. Still, it's well under an M3, and has far more power off the show room floor. The fact is that most of us will buy this car for one reason: Destroy everything else on the road and laugh while doing it. So my only question is this - when is Ford going to preview the production version? And exactly how much are we going to get in final hp specs? I'm hoping for a March '06 at New York, but we'll all just have to wait... Impatiently.

Iv'e put down $1000.00 with my Ford dealer and I'm inline, only 20 other greedy dogs in front of me. I'll be working insane hours so that by the time the price is set(DEC-FEB)I'll halve most of the money. I've been waiting a long time to own a sweet ride, I was going to invest in the C6 vette but once I saw the Shelby GT 500 I tossed that idea out the window. BTW, those vents in the hood are to get air OUT, not in. This isn't a car you drive to work everyday boyz, it's a collector. Treat it with respect, in twenty years it will be worth at least twice what will be paid for it. I'll bet that the tag will mirror the HP, 500.

Other than that (considering I've never seen one in person) I think it's a badass car and I'm going to try and afford one!!! Great job on the GT500 Mr. S

Everything I've read agrees with the $40,000 range, but if the production is limited to around 10,000, look for the going price to be well over that. May 23 2005 at 8:35 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIn many ways, Carol Shelby lives in every Mustang produced and the new GT 500 is a testimonial to both Mr. Shelby and Ford Motor Companies talents. Ford again has shown that the customer is a big part of their quality program by listening to years of our experience on the road with their vehicles. The GT 500 is just another triumph over GM and MOPAR by building a new car with tradition in its design. The new GTO and Charger are flukes of nature that unceremoniously display the badge of what once were great cars. My 05 GT arrives in June (waiting for 7 months) and I just might trade for the Shelby. I'll let my Grandson decide since it will be his some day.
May 22 2005 at 2:40 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI read an article last weekend(may 8) in one of the car mags about the new head of SVT, he stated that the gt500 would be a mainstream model, around 40,000 and they would make enough to meet demand. He is taking SVT to the mainstream, Lutz should get off his ass and come out with a retro Tri-5, that would make more money than the catholic church.
