Jeep Commander
Prepare to be horrified. We rarely completely trash vehicles. But there is always an exception to that rule. The Jeep Commander has to be one of the most unappealing vehicles, as far as appearance, we've seen in this site's ten months of existence. In recent times, only the Pontiac Aztec has been uglier.

Jeep Commander

On the plus side, at least the Commander looks like it delivers a really nice seven-seat SUV for Jeep. Inside the seats and dash look terrific. Jeep has given the Commander two V-8 engine choices, but will anyone opt away from the 5.7 L Hemi for the 4.7 L SOHC V-8? There will also be a 3.7 L V-6. I?m sorry DCX, this is the first misstep you?ve made since the 300. While not everyone likes the 300/Magnum/Charger the people aligned with this monstrosity won?t be split 50/50. We?ll just post the rest of the pictures and let everyone dig in.

You are absolutely off your rocker! i love this vehicle.
It is the perfect blend for a family that needs a third row but also wants the feel of an suv.
For 28k i got a vehicle that some people thought i was paying over 40k. I think you are not in reality of people who buy cars. What do you want for 28k? The inside is close to a mercedes and it drives like a dream.
My only other suv near it was a ford explorer that was 4X2. I think the problem is the people who critic this either are too rich or just dream of getting suvs not purchasing them. This is a bargain and only gotten great compliments. It is a Jeep not an Acura look alike for yuppies.

First Glance.....Fugly! Second Glance.....Fugly! Now, I'm a hardcore jeep person. But WTF? So, I decided to take a third glance with this in mind.... 1. People LOVED the original Cherokee (keep that in mind) 2. Hard core Jeepers have complained about not having something to compete with the Hummers and Suburbans for years. 3. Hard core Jeepers tend to really bash the sleek design of the new Grand Cherokees and Liberties in favor of the more utilitarian designs. ----- Jeeps survey is showing that 9/10 jeep users would consider buying this. Why? Because above all, Jeeps are Soccer mom vehicles. This is a 7 passenger vehicle tested on the Rubicon. Well why not the Rescue concept from a few years ago? Personally, as awesome as the vehicle was, it was a little TOO close to looking like an H2, whereas this looks like a Jeep (the cherokee). Brand ID, you know. Would I buy one, probably not, mainly b/c I wouldn't buy a suburban or any other thing that size. Can I accept it? If it performs like a Jeep...welcome to the family. It really reminds me of my old neighbor Elwood's Beat Up Grand Wagoneer.

oh god. as a previous XJ owner (5 years, 1999-04), this is like meeting an old HS flame 10 years after graduation and seeing her be 300lbs. First they replaced the XJ with the Liberty, a much cuter, softer and friendlier SUV. Now they reincarnate the XJ as a bloated, oversized soccer-mom-mobile, and would be surprised if this monstrosity could actually tackle the Rubicon. just further proof that "Jeep" exists in name only. It's soul is gone.

WOw. Uuugggly... This is the excuse I needed to keep my G/C for my wife and buy a Harley for the other two seats. ;)

Was curious and stopped at a dealer on Sunday. There was one in back, not prepped as yet. The back end where you can stand to put things on the luggage rack it really cheap, thin plastic. Looked inside and seemed narrower than my my current Grand Cherokee. The other problem right off the bat is the windshield. Not high enough to see the traffic lights that hang in the center of the road. Then I looked at the sticker........ They want what??????? Basic vehicle $35,950 for a 4x2 and a V6. Come on Chrysler think aboout the future. By the way, my current G/C is a 96 and its number 4 and the way things are with vehicles now at Jeep, its my last one..

I like it, it has that Paris to Dakar look. Just add a few Jerry Cans to the Lift Gate and a couple of spare tires to the roof and your good to go

I think it looks great. Who wants a pretty SUV anyway?
matth - agreed on the monte carlo... hahahaha. and the thing is, there's ugly that's endearing (like the boxy scion) and there's ugly that's just ugly - like this. none of the lines work together (the angle of the windshield? no no no no no). it's trying to be square and rounded at the same time, and doing a poor job of both. the serious underbite in the front is only accentuated by the windshield line. ugh.

You have got to be kidding right? Your critic's comments only foster my belief that the American consumer loves to be spoon fed crap. This vehicle has a hemi, it has e-lockers front and rear, it has a two speed transfer case with compound low and it is actually capable of doing more than four wheeling on I-15. Who care what it looks like for Pete's sake. It is the first truly capable off road SUV to come out of an almost American manufacturer in years. Look at the interior space, it has real head room and leg room. Go back to your Toureg and leave a real off road vehicle to people who really use them. PS I hate jeeps but at least I have the brains to recognize off road capability when I see it.

I like it. SUVs should be boxy. The letter U stands for Utility. You should be able to put stuff in them. I hate the Murano and the Infinity FX series (and the like) which can't make up their minds if they're sports cars or SUVs. Why would you want the worst of both worlds?

Well, I like it. I've got 4 kids and actually have been looking for a 4x4 that could fit the whole fam and the dog in his crate. The only thing I'm waiting on are fuel economy numbers (any better than 9 mpg and it has all competitors beat). If so, then when my current lease is up in '07, I'll pick one up. Otherwise, the only others out there this size are Hummer, Suburban and Expedition ( which all get dismally poor mileage; see above). And sadly, if it's mileage is as bad as those listed, then out of the bunch, I'll get a Hummer...it looks cooler.
