Ford Shelby Cobra GT500
Since most of you have already read the statistics at Gotmustang.com we don't have much to tell you other than this thing is hot. The new Mustang, and now its offspring, is an inspiring vehicle. It is muscular, angular and cool all at the same time. I think the offshoots, special editions and added power to not only the SVT line but also the rebirth of Mopar, is really giving a new generation of enthusiasts something to aspire to, drool over and talk about. That is a very important part of car culture that has been missing for far too long.
Attaching Shelby, and his name, to this particular vehicle seems like a no brainer, but it is a logical progression for this all new SVT. As far as the looks, the GT500 is well done. The stripes are classy, the lack of the big foglights adds a bad-ass bass mouth to the grill. And the performance promises to be awe-inspiring. We’re only a bit dismayed by the solid rear axle. The 450+ hp supercharged engine is tops in the class.
The interior dress-ups and exterior badging is just right too. We’re really, really,
really hoping the GT500 will be at the spring rally in May so we can bring you real life impressions. Enjoy the
pictures.

Considering it's the new SVT Cobra, shouldn't it be much more powerful and otherwise have at least an ind. rear suspension? It looks like a great car; but it could be easily trumped....by the other american "tuners" out there. As mentioned, the Charger looks like competition breathing down the SVT's neck.

WOW WOW WOW WOW!!!!!! Easily one of the most beautiful cars of the past 25 years and definetly worthy of the Shelby Gt500 name! 425 supercharged horses sounds damn good. I read on another forum that the solid rear axel was a part of a cost cutting measure that apparently saved Ford something like $70 million? (not exactly sure if that's right). Not the worst tradeoff if it can keep the cost down to under 40k (Hopefully but unlikely in my opinion, especially with the dealer markups that will continue for a long time...). Love the pic of the 07 posed with the '68... If I had a spare $100k, my garage would look like that.

Am I the only one bored with the new stang? I mean it's nice and all, it's just kinda boring. Whenever I see one I just think to myself that the designer must have just watched "Gone in 60 Seconds" and figured it looked good on the movie so it should look good as the new 'stang. Call me odd (lots of people do) but I want a new mustang that looks like a new mustang, not a new mustang that looks like an old mustang.
P.S.
I hope ford removes their lips from Carol Shelby's ass soon, I mean he's awesome and he brought all sorts of great stuff to the automotive world but he's only a marketing tool now.

425HP? The ford media site and other sites say 450+? and what is up with the MOPAR comment?
Frickin' hot car though!

Looks great, though I think you understimate the effect of the import scene on the youth car subculture. There are those just interested in stickers, stereos, and electronics (haven't there always been though?) but I think there a great number of them truly interested in vehicle performance.
Though one could take your point to mean that muscle cars have been lacking to stir proper lust in us young auto-enthusiats. That I would agree with. Modern (80s and 90s) intimations and imitations of Muscle Cars have been relegated to redneck southern car culture in the minds of my generation. I think this could be pointing to a broader rebirth.
Hmmm... after collapsing from an all night study session I shall be dreaming of this in blue with white stripes (don't tell the girlfriend)

Incredible car, but isn't $40k darn near Corvette money?
The "lower-level" Mustangs are so good that they almost sell the customer down to a less expensive model. The GT makes a strong case against the Cobra by approaching 450hp with the addition of an aftermarket supercharger, for a lot less cash. The V6 car is faster than the '96-'98 V8 cars, and is the best looking of the three.
I'm trying hard not to lust after the base V6, but man that car is sexy. The fake Halibrands and the lack of foglights and aero frippery leave this a visually stunning car.

Too much badging on car. It is the SVT Cobra Shelby GT500 it seems to me. Long-ass title for a car....
(And if it's just the Shelby GT500 take off the Cobra/SVT badging)

I have one huge problem with this vehicle. The 4 headlights looks *way* better than the two. Even the old GT500 had them. Where are they on this one?!
To #6: you're not alone. We'll be seeing hundreds of these on the road soon enough and they'll just be another car. I don't know why they get all the hype they get.

KIVERS--- YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!!!
I think that this whole Mustang fiasco is way overblown. Ford went retro with the previous generation and did it again. Personally, I think that the front end of the car looks decent, but am I the only one that things the back looks like a big bubble? It doesn't have the stance of the 5.0s, especially in the back. Saleen was the only tuner to understand that concept, which is why their version cut the "three taillight" theme into two, giving it a more angular look.
Granted, I'm still bitter that the F-bodies of GM are gone, but PLEASE STOP GIVING THE NEW MODEL MUSTANG SO MUCH CREDIT. Ford is riding this retro thing toooooooo long. I have finally developed a small sliver of appreciation for the previous generation Mustangs (since my younger brother has one and I never realized that you could improve its performance so much).
I would love to see the depreciation on these Mustangs when everyone gets sick of the nostalgia and then desire something called PROGRESS.
