Paul and Anita Lienert are frequent punching bags in our comment sections and sometimes it is deserved. They start out their review of the all-new VW Jetta nailing our biggest gripe, the price and alienating of the Jetta fanbase. Terrific. But then they get into the meat of the car and forget all about the $24,000 price tag of their moderately equipped version. And yes that's with the base engine. No matter how improved the car is, many buyers will not get past the price tag. Sitting next to the upscale Touareg, the new Jetta might be seen as another attempt to gouge loyal VW fans who now have much more to choose from.
