Ford debuting two Super Bowl spots
During the Ford sponsored pre-game show, which we'll have on mute rather than listening to Terry Bradshaw and Jimmy Johnson, Ford will show two 60 second ads for the new Mustang Convertible and F Series trucks. The Mustang spot sounds like it could be mildly amusing but nothing mind-blowing. Someone in the arctic can't resist driving the convertible with the top down and freezes solid with a smile. Not totally original but pretty funny as a teaser for a car coming out in a few months. The truck ad sounds totally lame with a biker gang, actually they like to be called clubs, being intimidated by a line of F Series trucks parked outside a roadhouse. Oh well. At least Lincoln got a lot of buzz for almost offending the entire country.

Sort of a creepy commercial - I was waiting for William H. Macy to pop out of the trunk or something...

From what I can gather the Lincoln ad would've offended only those thousands of alter boys who have been mishandled by their priests. Maybe made a few priests look over their shoulders at the same time.

#2 ... i'm in alaska. and i see mustangs driving around all winter long. probably saw a dozen today alone. i don't see what is so amusing about a mustang in the snow...? i see it every single day. just because you can't drive a RWD car worth a crap in the snow doesn't mean no one on earth can.
... and i didn't think that Lincoln ad was that offensive. stupid and not very funny? yes. offensive? not really. did i miss something?

oh wait... it's late. i read dumb. i suppose you could also be mocking the fact that Ford thinks that a Mustang in the snow is supposed to be funny. in which case... nevermind. i agree with that. my bad.

I give it an ok, not good or great. Seemed like it got awfully heavy rotation; I wonder if that's because they had to pull the Lincoln spot at the last minute?

I drive my Mustang in the snow all the time. As long as I can get it moving, it actually drives fine. The only times I've had problems are when I've left summer tires on the car (hence the not moving). With all-season tires, the car is as good as any 2wd truck, suv, etc. Sure it slides around a little, but I actually consider it fun, not dangerous.
I also believe RWD is safer in the snow than FWD. As you're cornering in both cars, the rwd car will give you indication of how much traction you have. A FWD won't. When you do lose grip, a FWD car will either go into an unrecoverable/difficult to recover spin (letting off the gas makes the situation worse) or shoot off the road (when your front tires lose grip, you're f***ed). A RWD car on the other hand will almost always have the rear end come out. The solution to this slide matches your instinct - let off the gas.

This was one of the lamest ads I've ever seen.
First off, no idiot is going to be driving a convertable around w/ the top down in freezing weather (ok maybe for the first 30 seconds when purchasing a new car.)
A real roadster (i.e. Top doesn't exist - like a '65 427 Cobra SC Replica - no it's not a Mustang) I can see, I've done it and you don't freeze to death you just where you Ski Jacket, Pants and Cap.
Second, who in the world puts a stop light in the middle of nowhere when there's not even any buildings near by. No place that I know of.
It wasn't funny it was lame.
As for RWD cars on the snow. Almost every car I've ever owned was RWD. If you know how to drive in snow in the first place it doesn't take much special to drive a RWD car in the snow. You just need to use your brain a bit.
