Ask Autoblog: Where's the motorsports coverage?
Many of our readers either like to read about motorsports, follow them through video games or simply don't give a gosh darn. Here at Autoblog we've been discussing how best to cover the topic. Both Steve D. and Walt have interest in the topic (Dave is still trying to get into it but without the Speed Channel – screw you Comcast – it's hard for him to catch on) and we're contemplating adding a Motorsports category to the site. Do you want more than that? A WRC link, Indy, Grand-Am? We think that would be too diluted and don't want to go overboard either. We'll find the right mix but want to hear from readers. Would adding more racing coverage be a major step-up for Autoblog?

Guys,
Yes, of course to motorsports. But WRC, GrandAm... How about F1? The season is about to start - in March - and unless you determinedely do not want readers outside USA, have F1 coverage too. I am in India, and we have just got our first ever Indian driver into F1. The billion-plus country is waiting to see what he does. We have a nice big net population too, not to mention the Indians in US. F1, definitely, pretty please.

Pick up more F1 News...Ah, Connie Montoya - I would love to see a section on the other racing classes, but maybe more of a preview of upcoming races on a Thurs and on Mon/Tues share the results of the weekend(points and results, crazy rules, hidden facts, etc)

Definitely Formula 1.
Besides of that, any other exciting motorsport would be great.
... but please, I beg you guys, forget about boooooring nascar and any of its derivatives. Repeat after me: "Rednecks don't read Autoblog", again, "Rednecks don't read Autoblog"... You've got it?

I'd don't follow F1, but it does seem like a must have. IRL and CART are too niche, sadly. Please, I beg of you no NASCAR. For me, WRC would be great.
OTOH, there are a couple of major events that might be worth covering - Indy 500, 24 Le Mans, whatever NASCAR's big race is (Daytona?). These events have a history that draws interest even from those who don't follow the series. Dakara would have been good too. I watched a little of that on SPEED and it was facinating.
I'd keep the coverage to behind the scenes things - like major schedule/rules/sponsor/driver/manufacturer changes. Things that would be helpful as the season gets going, so we can figure out what-ever-happened-too some driver from last year. Race results too, although fans have a million other ways to get that. Nothing about non-race related things that drivers are doing.
Most race series seem to have a backroom struggle for power. A little coverage on that might be good, since the TV people never talk about it.
Oh, and no results in the title or front page blurb :)

Ok, so don't blacklist me and I'm probably in the minority on this subject, but I have no desire to read about motorsports coverage. While I've been a loyal subscriber to AutoWeek, I still don't use half the magazine because of the motorsports coverage. With that said, I know many people are interested in it, so if you can find a way to provide it without reducing the current automobile coverage then I think all sides are happy.

Definately F1...also add WRC, Touring (under which BTCC, DTM, JGTC, and of course D1 would fall under), and yes I agree with the redneck comment above.
Last but not least you have to add underground, including local drag. I would love to read about some kid in Scranton who beat some other guys beater integra with his 91 civic with a loud muffler upgrade. I'm sure everyone would love that.

Yes to F1 and WRC but I respect that other people don't want to read it and i would agree that i would like the other coverege to remain at the same level. also if i may add, everyone who has been posting has been really nice, there hasn't been any bickering or anything and thats good to see. ok enough sensitive stuff... screw nascar no one wants to read about nascar!

I despise speed.com. They used to have some good coverage but their new site is horrid for content. It's just a big ad scheme.
There is already a lot of coverage for F1, Nascar. However we are truly missing good coverage on WRC, Rolex Sports Car, American LeMans, and Motorcycle. Ok dummy it say's "auto" in the autoblog not motorcycleblog. Still it's the best racing out there!

I would say that a little motorsport coverage would be desirable, but on a brief 'what's on tonight and why it's interesting' basis.
Coverage for people too lazy to read actual coverage. I wouldn't mind being on top of trends in say, F1, but I can't be bothered with the details. If I wanted details, I know there are endless ones to be had elsewhere.

I'll throw in my $.02... I think motorsports coverage would be good but, at the same time, I feel this blog has been more about excellent street car coverage. There are plenty of specialty sites that cover racing and plenty of people who don't care about racing so, as previously mentioned, a side bar section should be all that is added without diluting the normal topics.
For the record, I enjoy NASCAR in addition to F1, IRL, and several others.

Yes please! Any motorsport (F1, WRC, ALMS, etc.) that involves turning in TWO DIRECTIONS..(I know...it's a heretical thought; racing involving both right AND left turns..oh the humanity..)

As much of a motorsports fan I am, I could do without the motorsport coverage other than unique news worthy snips here on autoblog. Results and inside scoops can be found from many other sources on the internet.
