German tuned Porsche claims top speed record
German tuner 9ff says it has broken the seven-year-old world-record top speed for a road
registered car. The modified 911 GT2 hit 241.1 mph beating Andy Wallace's 240.1 mph in a McLaren F1. The 911 has an
ungodly 828 bhp at 7200 rpm and 649 lb ft of torque. 9ff plans to produce 20 of these suckers called the 9F-V400 for a
measly 278,000 pounds. Or $524,244.58.
Thanks to Robert F. for the tip.

Good God - please do not use the term 'rpms'. Let think about it: RPM stands for revolutions per minute. The plural is already built in. If you had revolutions per minutes (presumably rpms), you would have too many variables. How many revolutions? How many minutes? I am currently driving at 6800 rpms - 3400 every two minutes.
Anyway, it takes credibility away from you by using that term. I like the blog and want it to be a success.

I believe the term 7200 RPMs is correct. If it were one revolution per minute it would be 1 RPM. Two revolutions per minute would be 2 RPMs.

I hope whoever buys one of these doesn't have a curb at the end of their driveway!

That run couldn't have been much fun. I prefer a bit more wheelbase with my 241. The rhyme is free of charge.

Ha, the car is probably sitting low because the downforce it produces. A normal 911 produces 600 lbs of lift at 150 mph, so that thing is working it's butt off to keep the 911's bubble shape on the ground.

Actually, revolutions per minute ought to be RPM... unless you want to type of RsPM. But that's just silly.

What about the street car "shootout" that Car and Driver did at the Ohio Transportation Research Center track in 1988? If I remember, all those cars had to be driven there, and a derivative of the Twin Turbo Corvette, the 880 hp Callaway SledgeHammer, recorded the top speed of 254.76 mph... (Google "Callaway Sledgehammer" on the net).

Sorry Brad...
You are wrong. RPM stands for Revolutions per Minutes. Check out a dictionary.

Wonder if Bill Gates is going to buy one of these and then leave it in the crate like his Ruf. Was it a Ruf? 930? Some super-duper 911.

Brian,
It was a 959 and Bill didn't leave it in a crate, US Customs did. For an interesting read, check out Autoweek's article on the federalization of the 959.

Not to be a jerk, but...
"You are wrong. RPM stands for Revolutions per Minutes. Check out a dictionary."
Revolutions is plural, minute is not.

Oh I know - I guess sarcasm is not always effective in writing. Check out the point I was trying to make in the first post. Too many variables would render the measurement useless. Sorry for confusion on the point. But you are right!

Not only the Sledgehammer but the Dauer 962 which hit something over 400 km/h (Officially timed, can't remember which track).
And if you've got the cash you can *still* buy one at the low, low price of 1 million...

When I whip my hands back and forth as quickly as I can, the speed gun showed 150+ mph in under 1 sec. I can make it stop (0 mph; that's miles per hour; miles is plural and hour is singlur) on a dime. It can then go in almost all directions to it's top speed.
