Ask Autoblog: What will we see at the Chicago Auto Show?
We know, it's less than two weeks until the Chicago Auto Show and everyone is getting antsy.
Granted there isn't as much buzz over Chicago as there was for
Detroit but we're still excited. Mainly because it means I don't
have to drive to Detroit to cover it. It's right here in my backyard. So what will we see? The debuts of:
-
Toyota FJ Cruiser
-
Buick Lucerne
-
Cadillac DTS
-
Mercury Milan and Mountaineer
-
Hyundai Tiburon Tuner
-
Mercedes Benz S65 AMG and E350
And world premieres by Jaguar, Ferrari, DaimlerChrysler (were guessing a Dodge Ram variation), Honda (were hoping new Civic) and Kia.
Is everyone significantly excited yet?

The Toyota is the only one that seems it would make any impact.

I'm definately looking forward to the Toyota. Let's hope it's not as ugly or bland as Toyota has been turning out lately.

Those do sound exciting, but oh Buick. Let the dairy jokes begin.

I guess Lutz finally gets his way. Don't forget that he wanted to call the Solstice the 'Antibes'.

Won't be at the Chicago Show but the show here in St. Louis starts Wednesday. I have not missed any year of the show since it has been here. Not as big as Detroit and the others, but BIG for us.

Well, I'm underwhelmed. The Cadillac DTS, if the front end of the President's new Limo is any indication, is ugly and now looks as cheap as a Daewoo. Buick hasn't launched anything worth spit since the Grand National and I'm sure that the Lucerne will be equally overpriced, understyled, and worthless. I'm not too keen on the Mercury Milan since it is unlikely to be anything different from the Ford Fusion except for whale's tooth grill. Anything associated with "tuner cars" is for boys not real men so that is worthless. Toyota builds the best worthless cars on the planet and since they've decided to abandon dull worthless cars for ugly worthless cars there is nothing to look forward to.
Chicago will be an empty promise and a good place for the sight-impaired to view; those who can see are likely recommended to avoid looking at the condensed ugliness that will be on parade.

Does anyone expect a redesign of the current Toyota Land Cruiser FJ100? The truck has been the same since 1998. A toyota dealer told me that they were discontinuing it, but that makes very little sense.

Chris - Toyota redesigned the Land Cruiser last year (see the Toyota UK website), but nothing's been said about it coming here.
Honestly it wouldn't surprise me in the least if they discontinued it. They've already got the Sequioa to cover the full-size SUV category, and what sense does it make to have a large, luxury SUV when they've got the Lexus brand?
If anything, I'd bet we can expect a new LX470 sometime in the near future.

As a current 2002 Mercury Mountaineer owner, is the vehicle to be shown at the Chicago Auto Show a redesigned 2006 model? Will it be available in the fall?

Any word on them showing the new entry-level Honda? Not the new Civic, but the smaller one. I'd like to see what that will be, since the Civic has grown up to be bigger than what the Accord used to be.

I'm EXTREMELY stoked about the Chicago Auto Show. Main reason: I'm flying from Phoenix to go see it. Not to mention a trip to the Volo Auto Museum. It's a testosterone weekend!
