GM's forced buyout of Fiat has been postponed until February 2. The two companies will hold talks through February 1 to avoid the mandatory merger. GM needs to avoid the acquisition at all costs because the company can't afford to absorb any more debt, especially $10.9 billion of it. Are we really talking billions here? And GM already has close to $300 billion of its own debt to worry about. Billions? $10 billion doesn't sound like it makes that much of a dent now does it?
