Sneak peek at the 2006 DTS thanks to the Pres
When President Bush rolls down Pennsylvania Avenue this Thursday he will be doing so in a car that hasn't been seen in public yet. GM has given the presidential limo the front and rear clips of the soon-to-be-unveiled Cadillac DTS, the Deville replacement. Obviously the roofline and the middle of the car are all special-built for the president. The Deville was last car in Caddy's lineup to get the redo and is still FWD and on the same chassis.

Nice looking frontend. I have a 2003 DTS and have had a 2000 DTS. So I am looking forward to the 2006 as it will be something new and different. GW is lucky to be the first out with this nice car.

I would hope the Prez limo isn't FWD. I know they can't tell us and hope no one finds out for security reason but wonder which motor they threw in this thing. Imagine driving this tank with 0-60 time being in the 8sec area? With all that cladding it probably could withstand a direct nuclear warhead. ;^)
When will the DTS switch to rear drive? So this is more like new body panels but same chassis just like the Impala?

It is as ugly as George Bush is stupid.

GMC doesn't, for obvious reasons, release the details of presidential limos until after they are no longer in use. The most recent one they released info was Clinton's, I think. It was basically an Escalade with a limo skin. AWD, 6.0 V8, body on frame construction, armor, bulletproof glass, etc. It was pretty slow, IIRC.

UGLY. The shapes seem to clash with each other, harsh vs soft. It also wont help that bush is riding in it.

If I was Prez I'd call Lutz up and tell him to ship me over the Sixteen. It might not be missle proof but with 1000hp you got a good chance of out running them ;)

What they're not telling you is the thing is an armored car with 4 inch thick windows, doors and floor. Are we safer now with Bush as president? Jimmy Carter walked from the Capital to the White House, Bush rode in an armored car!

The only thing on the Prez's car that's Cadillac is the hood ornament. Everything else is customized. The doors are so heavy and vaultlike (notice them next time on CNN) they require automatic devices to open and close; the bulletproof glass is so thick special interior lighting was installed to replace the blocked sunlight. Special infrared scopes allow the driver to continue maneuvering even though the headlights are shot out. I'm sure the communication system is extensive and sophisticated.

This is truly a remarkable vehicle. Having seen them (yes, there are two) personally last week - and from only three feet away - I can verify these really are sweet rides! Just hearing the sound of those powerful engines will give you chills. What a fitting tribute to the most powerful leader in the world!

I'd imagine, that it is once again a body on frame design to handle the weight, id almost guarentee AWD and prolly the chevy LS2 V8 (doubtfully stock). that car has to weigh in at ~7000#'s and i dont think the secret service is paying any mind to the bottom line on the bill, you dont outfit a car with enough security to protect the leader of the free world and leave it slow. i wouldnt at all be suprised to see over 600hp in it. and it has been proven that chevy was testing supercharged copies of the 7.0L LS series motor that was rumoured at over 600hp. as for the suspension, it definetly got the ground clearance and tire sive to run things over, prolly with some form of Hummer's CTIS system (if your rading the GM parts bin, why not) along with an extremely heavy duty suspension, you dont want a control arm cracking while your running from a missle cause you hit the last curb a little too hard. not to mention its definetly going to have its own life support system in case of chem/bio attack, and it prolly has radiation sheilding. remeber there's people brighter than us thinking up of was to make this machine protect its occupants.
