Pontiac adds a slew of new models
Out of all the carmakers on display at the Detroit Auto Show, Pontiac seemed to offer the most all-new models (I'm just guessing on that but it seemed that way). The G6 coupe and convertible are both very attractive. The hard-top drops pretty quickly and I'm surprised that there will be such an affordable retractable hard-top on the market. Another rebadge job brings the Pontiac Torrent. It looked like nothing special and if it handles like the Equinox I doubt I'll be excited to drive it. Then there's the GTO. I don't care if it does have hoodscoops it does nothing for me. But Pontiac is doing something right with their G6s and Solstice. Lets hope it transfers to the rest of the line soon. Is it me or is Pontiac's front end, especially the grill, looking more and more like BMW's?

Hi Fred, actually it's the other way around and it's more like BMW has adopted the Pontiac grill. Pontiac had these design themes long before BMW.

Shane,
try and find a bmw without the twin grill. pontiac copied bmw's grill and red interior lighting.

Pontiac has had variations of split grill design on its cars since before BMW manufactured automobiles. The red interior lighting has been there since the 80's.

Jack,
split grill maybe, kidney shaped is definitely a "borrowed" element. yes, my wife's 85 grand am had red lights, but so did our friends 79 320i.

Hey, if Pontiac could copy the BMW suspension and fun to drive factor we would have a real story. This styling debate is like the Chicken vs. the Egg... which came first? Who cares, BMW has a premium product that is a drivers car, and Pontiac is a value leader that builds its sales through marketing itself as a drivers car. I hope we know who makes the real Rolex and who is pushing the knock off! BTW - I drive a Vibe, but would love to be able to afford a BMW. No regrets on the purchase though... it's an undercover Toyota.

Hey JDC,
I like your comments, but they are a bit unfair considering price point. Nonetheless, I drive a 04 GTO and a friend has a 2004 330i. From personal experience, the GTO is every bit the "drivers car" as the BMW. Except, of course, that the GTO is more refined, more reliable and fast as hell. The BMW is slow, yet has the name and resale.

I find it interesting that many slam the GTO because of it's jellybean shape, when we have the G6 coupe which is also jellybean shaped.
